You got a nice deer trail running parallel to a field about 15 yards into the woods. Wind blows from the field into the woods. Just curious as to how close you would set up your stand to this trail?

I like to keep my stands in the 15 to 20 yard range from the trail. Another thing with this you may want to consider though is that you could be looking at deer on the field edge. That would mean a stand 10 yards off the trail would give you 25 to the field. Still a makeable shot for most.

15 yards would be ideal. Just don't forget to consider what is behind you. Last thing you want is your scent blowing down into another travel route.

Deer approaching from behind you will pick you up pretty fast if you are skylined by the field opening. Make sure you have enough canopy to cover up in.

I have an awesome spot similar to what you described. One of my stand locations is set inside the woods about 10 yards from a small field. I get deer coming up from the woods below feeding on acorns and heading to the field and across the field and then into some housing developments. At the same time when I hunt in the early morning, I get the reverse. So, I have a shot at deer that are in the woods or that come along the edge of the field. You might want to try setting your stand up in a similar way to maximize your chances.

20 yards here as well. Plenty of room to see the trail and the field.

15 to 20 sounds good. Don't get too close and have a goofy shot angle.
