I'm not sure but I think the nut is too hard for them to open.
Where I hunt there are black walnut trees everywhere.Their husks have a very strong smell to them,so I think I will use that smelll as a cover scent.

When I grew up my pap would have us collecting those walnuts. We'd take them into the shed and remove the green shell and put the walnuts in baskets to dry out. The problem was that the green shell would stain your hands brown/black for days. Was always hard to go to school and explain to the other kids why my hands were that way. lol The next year we smartened up and started wearing gloves.

I hunt from a few black walnut trees and have never seen any deer give them a second thought.
Sometimes I think it isn't a good idea to climb onto a black walnut. I've almost been knocked out by those damn things falling from higher branches!

I just cut a piece of the shellopen and rub it on the tree around me once I'm in the stand. I also read somewhere that you can brighten up faded out camo by somehow soaking it in walnuts. Anyone everr tried that?
