Dead big buck hit by car
#11
Last year I was after a nice 5x5. I had seen him several times while on the stand. Each time he was just a little too far out for the limit I set to shoot or just plain didn't give me a 1/2 decent shot. I convinced myself that I had plenty of time so I just wasn't going rush it and scare him off, or make a bad shot and loose him. I stepped back for a couple of days and watched things from a hilltop. I found the fence crossing he used every morning further up the creek and set up my ambush site. This was it, he would soon be mine. After a week of him seemingly fallen off the face of the earth I did a little more scouting and found him down in the middle of the creek right by the road.
I don't regret not trying a bad shot, but it does kind of make you think. At least the rack didn't get damaged and he is now a nice European mount in the Garage.
