Dead big buck hit by car
 

I usually don't see too many bucks being victims of road kill much less a big one. But yesterday around 6:15 PM on way home from work I saw cops up ahead figuring they were tending to an accident. Lo and behold as I got closer I saw the body of a deer laying on the medium strip. But the first thing I noticed was nothing but rack!

I was in the lane adjacent to the medium strip and got a close up. Too bad I didn't have my digital camera. One of the cops was standing over top of it, but I did slow down and took a good look. It was at least an 8-pointer if not more and he was a bruiser!!

He had just a little velvet still on but a wallhanger in anybody's book. Broke my heart. :(

Always a shame when one falls that way..but as a side note to someone elses thread, wasn't it hot in Maryland yesterday? Yet this big buck was moving!;)

It breaks my heart too every time I see something like that. We have one stretch of road nearby that has to have at least 2 new roadkills on it every week. Both sides are private land and not open to hunting. :(

Last year i picked up the rack off a road kill deer that was hit near a friend driveway and it was a monter 8 point with a 17 1/2 inch spread and 9 inch g2's real nice for here. Shame is we hunt his property and he had trail cam pictures of the buck for the past 3 years we had been letting him grow. one day he would have been great but now he is buzzard tirds. What a shame.

It was hot that day, unseasonably hot. Autumn started Thursday but you would never know by the weather we are having here in the East. I don't think it was pushed from hunters either as this area is another infamous area here in Maryland that is suburban and cannot be hunted. But it's full of deer and I always knew big bucks hang there. I have only actually seen big bucks in this area late at night during the rut in years past.

But during daytime they remain ghosts to never be seen. Alas, it was very surprising this guy was on the move. Maybe some kids walking through the woods jumped it up. I think typically big bucks are crafty enough to just stay there and let you walk by, but maybe they got too close and he bolted in the "wrong" direction. The very next morning a doe was killed by a car in the same location.

It's just another area full of deer who will potentially meet their fate by getting hit by a car as opposed to natural causes. It's a shame. That place could be bow-hunted but the tree huggers have their way here in Maryland.

I just got word that this buck was hit by a car only 200 yards from where this picture was taken. He WAS my obsession for this years bow season, but someone "Heard" that he was hit and the rack was taken.

That is just plain sick. That is a buck of a lifetiime that many hunters will never even see. In fact another one was hit not too far from where I saw the one I mentioned by a buddy of mine and he reported the rack being sawed off. Just sick...[:'(]
