In Nebraska we trap alot of bobcats and every once in a while we get a Lynx.
In my professional opinion that is a Lynx, But a small one at that with his summer coat on. What gets me is that anybody could mistake that for a mountain lion, LOL. |

Sure looks like a Bobcat to me. I think too many people think of Bobcats in their winter coats. If the camera is correct and it's the end of may then that cat is well into it's summer coat.
I can see where people think it's a Couger by it's head shape but if you look close I think there may just be something between the camera and it's face that makes the jaw line appear to be couger like. But it seems way too small to be a Cougar. Plus I think I can see some spots on the belly. On the other hand I can see what I think is a white underchin which is more like a Cougar. Also about the tail....that would have to be one heck of a wag to get a Cougars tail out of the picture. A Cougars tail is pretty long and it would have to be almost completely out to the left side to hide that much of it. Possible though. I also think the long gate (stride)that it's taking makes it look more Couger like. I don't know how big that salt lick is but it dosen't look to be that big and by that scale it looks like something in the 30lb range. Could it be a juvenile Couger? possible but my bet is on Bobcat |
