A friend and I did some arrow test a few years back and I was curious what arrow your think penetrates the best. We shot several different aluminum and carbon arrow into ¾ in cdx plywood at different distances. We found that the skinny shaft carbon arrows out penetrated the others by a good bit. It seemed to have more to do with the diameter of the arrow than the weight of the arrow. All that we used were field tips no broadheads. What have you experience with different arrows?

I basicly have found the same thing. I have shot "skinny" carbons, the ICS carbons and all sorts of differnt aluminums. The smaller diameter of the shaft the more it penetrates in most materials. I also think that the stiffer nature of carbon puts more of the impact energy in line with the broadhead which will increase penetration. On the other hand, I have found that the larger the diameter of the shaft, the better the accuracy with broadheads. This of course is provided both arrows are spinned and tuned properly to the bow.
