Default What do you use to bait?

I don't remember where I heard this from but some people may like to use peanut butter and spread it on the trunks of trees. Has anyone ever tried this and does it work?

Then that gives me an idea: if that works and since we know salt licks do also, what about just throwing down salted peanuts? See, I'm too lazy to carry a bushel of apples a quarter mile into the woods. LOL

Not what do you use, but what works best for you out of the various things you've tried?

I have tried Peanut butter on a number of different objects, deer in my area never seem to be interested in it. The deer in my area usually go for sugarbeets and corn.
