Default Question about scent control with ATV's

Do you guys that use an ATV to get to your hunting area have a problem with getting exhaust or maybe even fuel smell on you while riding to your stand?

I always fill up the truck and the 4 wheeler at least a couple of days in advance of a hunting trip to keep from contaminating my hunting clothes with diesel & gas fumes but what about while riding to your hunting area, especially on those colder mornings when you may have to idle it for a minute or so to warm it up.

It's either that or a Ford Powerstroke diesel coming through the woods. <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I'm on a private lease anyway and it's about 1.5 miles from my campsite to my hunting site.

Scent control, noise control and annoying the hell out of other hunters can be avoided by leaving the ATV's at home. I have walked up to seven miles in mountainous West Virginia to a stand location. If you are a dedicated hunter you will put the effort into getting on stand. ATV's have a place but its not in the whitetail woods.

I bought my ATV with for the purpose of getting me, my gear, and whatever I need to get in and out of the woods. I respect other hunters when I'm on my ATV. I don't just go ambling off into the woods around other people stands and such. I've spent my share of time on foot and now I don't have to. If you choose to hike 7 miles into where you want to hunt, good for you. I choose not to. I can assure you I'm about as dedicated to hunting as anyone, so I'd appreciate it if you don't come on here passing judgement on somebody you don't even know. If the whitetail woods are not a place for ATV's then there would not me such a massive demand for them. I was asking a legitimate question and if you don't have anything better to offer other than &quot;leave the ATV's at home&quot; then don't bother replying.

If you are respectful to hunters and the environment I guess you don't have anything to worry about. The land I hunt is ridden with trash and four wheeler trails. When I started hunting it was pretty much unaffected by human trafic. It is just sad that no matter how far you walk these days you can't escape litter. I too own a four wheeler but can't enjoy hunting and the outdoors when everything flys by at 20 miles per hour. It seems to me that the end result is a dead animal not a good hunting experience. Alot can happen from the truck/camp to your hunting location.

The main thing I use my 4 wheeler for is strictly to get me and all of my gear from camp to withing a couple hundred yards from my stand. I don't drive right up to my stand and park it just so I don't have to walk in. It certainly makes it much easier to get your deer back to camp as well. We have a standing rule where I hunt anyway. During deer season, the ATV's go strictly to and from the stand, it is not a free for all to go riding around wherever you please. As I said I respect the area of other hunters and would not just go blasting by their stand to interrupt their hunting. I know it would hack me off if someone did it to me so I don't do it to others.
