Default Scouting?

Was curious when you guys may start scouting? My season doesn't start for 2 more months, but, should I start now? Or do deer change their runs in between now and then? Do you guys ever stop or do you take walks out to your areas throughout the year? Thanks for your help. Jay

Partsjay, get out there if you can and look around. My time scouting varies though. On some of the parcels that i have been hunting for a while and know well, i dont scout all that often, but rather just go and see if the deer are acting like the have in the past. New areas are a different story though, i try to find the best area as soon as i can to set up a stand, then try to leave the area alone before the season starts so the deer dont get spooked.

Now is the perfect time to set up your stands and find your spots. I have hunted the same area for 10 years so I know it like the back of my hand and already have my standsup. Get out there and get it done and use plenty of bug spray.

I typically scout all year in one form or another though I do most of my active scouting starting around July 4th weekend.

The best scouting you can do is from experience in hunting that location, but if you get a new spot now is the time. I don't like going to my locations anytime after September 10th or so. Then next year go to that spot in March and April when you can really see the past years sign and you don't have to worry about spooking deer at that time of year. As far as the deer changing their patterns yes they change often. Right know they are on their summer feeding patterns and by ctober 10th or so they will begin to change to prepare for the rut. Good luck...

I try to go out to my lease at least once a month in the off season to maintain trails put out mineral blocks etc. Here in Texas we have an October 1 opener for bow season so now that Aug. is here I will try to get out once a week to scout. When I scout I get as scent free as I can and wear camo. Also I really take my time moving around. I don't want to jump anything but if I do I'd like to get a look at it.
