RE: Which Magnus?
From AT by a guy named Jerry/NJ. This is what he had to say about the pictures and everything..
OK, I finished cuttin them up and I came across the shoulder of the 190# boar my son shot. He was using my Patriot VFT at 61# shooting a 433 grain Axis 340 with a 125 grain Magnus Stingers 4 blade at 265 fps. He shot thru the shoulder blade then both lungs and the bh exited out the other side but the arrow stayed in the boar. I think that is dam good performance considering he had to shoot thru the shield first, then the shoulder blade and thru the vitals and out the ribs and thru the shield on the opposite side. I didnt realize he had shot thru the shoulder until I started to butcher them. ![]() ![]() |
RE: Which Magnus?
Wow.... That is an excellent image, DK! Talk about solid proof of a 4 blade Stinger punching through bone! I can't wait for this season to start! :D

RE: Which Magnus?
ORIGINAL: lou-lou Everyone is avoiding the question, will a magnus break thru bone and ribs, I'm not saying muzzy's are sharper because they are not, do they fly better, for most people no, I prefer the 3 blade 100gr head. sure the blades bent when I shot a 200lb doe, but it went thru both shoulders and then stuck in a tree after it went thru, cannot expect any head to hold up after that, not even a magnus. They make a bigger hole that a given on flesh, has anyone shot a deer by mistake in the shoulder or high in the ribs with a magnus, if so what happened to the head. I guess the bottom line is most people can't get a muzzy to fly right, which in turn makes them look elsewhere, I'm not saying that magnus isn't a great head, but will it hold up to a questionable hit on a deer. Like I said before if muzzy didn't fly right I'd have a magnus head on. Kind of makes me wonder if people could get a muzzy to fly right, would they still shot what they are shooting? I USED to shoot Muzzy, now I shoot Magnus...and primarily because of the penetration on bad shots issue. Personally the Magnus have out performed the Muzzy's in my experiences. I know several other folks here have also shot Magnus for years as well. Hopefully they will respond. I am not putting down Muzzy's...they are excellent heads. I just think my odds are a tad better on the not so great shot with a Magnus, which is why I will continue to use them. (Also, out of a well tuned bow...my Magnus heads fly exactly like my field points...as did the Muzzy's. IMO that is a tuning issue, not a broadhead issue.) |
RE: Which Magnus?
ORIGINAL: deerslayer223 i am totaly against serrated edges on broadheads just my opinion though so no one take offence. example say u cut urself with a hand saw just knick ur finger it doesnt bleed much at all if any. now say ur shaving and knick ur face with a razor it deffinately bleeds more. my point is a razor straight edge will pass through causing less friction and give the wound less of a chance of clotting up than a serrated egde will. i'd imagine the bloodtrail would be sparce from a serrated edge also? The amount a wound bleeds has to do with the trauma to that tissue. A smashing, crushing or blunt tearing of tissue will cause a lot of trauma and a reflex spasm and constriction of all the damaged tissue. A razor sharp cut does little trauma......it simply slices clean open. This causes less constriction of tissue and or vessels and more bleeding. Sharpness of your heads is what will get you more blood........all other things being equal. I have butchered and tracked deer shot with serrated SteelForce heads the last couple years. They do unreal damage and leave tons of blood. If I didn't like my Stingers so much I would use that head next. Sharpness is the key. |
RE: Which Magnus?
WOW! Great pictures, I cannot argue with that, I am not familiar with a hogs shoulder than a deers, is there much of a difference? Is one thicker than the other? What did the head look like? That stinger did a number on that hog!! Point taken.

RE: Which Magnus?
That is some nice damage.. I don't think it matters what the head looks like when it comes to Stingers or any Magnus head. They have a lifetime Guarenteethat I remember reading somewhere that includes replacing damaged broadheads...Can't find the information on their website except the quote of the only broadhead with a liftetime guarentee, doesn't say what is covers...
That damage makes me think of buying some. .. I believe they (serrated)are legal in Illinois now Justin... Not positive on that, saw no mention of it in the regulations the last time I saw them (But wasn't looking specifically for that information)' Edited to remove some information that I am not remembering totally. |
RE: Which Magnus?
Anthony, you could shoot the head into a vault door. Send them in, and tell them exactly what you did and you will get a new head back. If you take an animal with them, send a picture and a testimony, and they will send you a free hat and t-shirt.

RE: Which Magnus?
Well, I knew I had read that they had a killer warrenty, just couldn't remember how killer. That is pretty nice.. Actually, that is real nice. I'm thinking of putting them on my arrows that I am using out of one of the Oneidas. The tricks flew so nice right out of the box for my wheelie bow and that bow is nicely dialed in so I really don't like messing with it anymore.. The other two bows, well, always room for tinkering and the Stingers have interested me for a while... So have the snuffers for that matter.
Now, just need to figure which bow goes out in the woods first this year. |
RE: Which Magnus?
Yes they will break through bone. I had a doe quartering away one time, it went through the hind raight leg bone, through the heart, and out through the shoulder bone. Broadhead was still fine. Im gettin ready to send my old ones in to have them send me new ones.
