RE: Which Magnus?
ORIGINAL: 5 shot 4 blade stingers are tough to beat for an all around head. Magnus Stingers are an unbelievable broadhead.... |
RE: Which Magnus?
I just got some of the Magnus Buzzcut 100 4 blades heads and shot them this weekend. I will say this they are the sharpest heads out of the pack that I have ever used and they fly better then any other head I ever used including Slick Tricks. I would definitly recommend these heads. I cant wait to see what they do while hunting........

RE: Which Magnus?
I agree that a cut on contact head will cut through flesh better than the muzzy, but if the muzzy did that to the plywood what would it do a deer if the shot is not perfect. Any broadhead will kill if place in the right spot. Will a magnus cut thru bone or shatter it like a muzzy? If I remember bone is much harder than flesh. Not every shot you make will be perfect. Sure the magnus will make a bigger hole and better bloodtrail, but what if you pull the shot and hit the shoulder what happends then. The magnus has so much cutting surface it will cause friction like it did with the wood in my test. Not saying magnus wouldn't do the job, all I 'm saying is that I want a little insurance if I screw up. I practice every day and am very confident with my shot but one never knows what will happen. If your shooting a heavy arrow at high poundage any broadhead will do. Bottom line the muzzy will go thru flesh like butter, it will also go thru ribs, shoulders and anything else it touches, can your magnus do that? Wheither it's a chisel head or a flat blade like magnus both will go thru flesh, but what about the mistakes we make? I what something that will do the job no matter where I hit him.

RE: Which Magnus?
Well, I shot a doe with a 4 blade 100 gr Muzzy last season, and it was a pass through. Not much more penetration to be had there. I am quite certain the Stinger I put on my arrows this year will do the same, but I must say I like the flight characteristics of the Stinger over the Muzzy. I HATE to vote down a Muzzy, but those Stingers are just awesome.

ORIGINAL: lou-lou Sure the magnus will make a bigger hole and better bloodtrail Fly like darts, spooky sharp, and made 2 big holes in the deer I shot last year.......left a lot of blood and he went 40-50 yards. Can't wait to get my Buzzcuts in this year. ![]() |
RE: Which Magnus?
I shot 100 grain 2 blade Stingers last year for the first time and couldn't have been happier with them. They flew great - 2 shots, 2 complete pass throughs with arrows stuck in the ground halfway up the shaft.
I've got a bunch of replacement blades already so I'm not sure if I'm going to pick up the new Buzzcuts or not. I know back in the day serrated blades were illegal in Illinois. Anyone know if this is still the law?? |
RE: Which Magnus?
i am totaly against serrated edges on broadheads just my opinion though so no one take offence. example say u cut urself with a hand saw just knick ur finger it doesnt bleed much at all if any. now say ur shaving and knick ur face with a razor it deffinately bleeds more. my point is a razor straight edge will pass through causing less friction and give the wound less of a chance of clotting up than a serrated egde will. i'd imagine the bloodtrail would be sparce from a serrated edge also?

RE: Which Magnus?
Everyone is avoiding the question, will a magnus break thru bone and ribs, I'm not saying muzzy's are sharper because they are not, do they fly better, for most people no, I prefer the 3 blade 100gr head. sure the blades bent when I shot a 200lb doe, but it went thru both shoulders and then stuck in a tree after it went thru, cannot expect any head to hold up after that, not even a magnus. They make a bigger hole that a given on flesh, has anyone shot a deer by mistake in the shoulder or high in the ribs with a magnus, if so what happened to the head. I guess the bottom line is most people can't get a muzzy to fly right, which in turn makes them look elsewhere, I'm not saying that magnus isn't a great head, but will it hold up to a questionable hit on a deer. Like I said before if muzzy didn't fly right I'd have a magnus head on. Kind of makes me wonder if people could get a muzzy to fly right, would they still shot what they are shooting?

RE: Which Magnus?
I don't know if anyone mentioend it (I didn't read all of the posts) but if you'd like to stick with the Muzzy name, take a look at their Phantom broadheads. Same concept as the Magnus Stingers, but made by Muzzy. I'll be trying them out this fall.

RE: Which Magnus?
If you give me a minute, I will have pictures of what a Stinger does when it hits a shoulder blade on a hog.
