Default Gotta vent on this one!@#$!!

I gotta vent this one out! In our local newspapers on Thursdays, there is an outdoors page. This week I find the picture of a guy (owner of a bow shop in a nearby town of Fannett, Texas) with a 800+ pound hog that he killed with one arrow! Under the pic is a long story about how he "stalked" this hog, and that this "elusive," "wild" hog had been seen only once in the last month, and that he made the "perfect" shot at 25 yards! Naturally, he advertised that he owned and operated a bow shop!
Well here is the TRUE story!
This "wild" hog that was "stalked" actually came from a 200 acre, high fenced game ranch! Now I have posted here before that I don't have a problem with high fenced areas, and I don't, IF they are several thousand acres and the animals are not hand fed.
However, as I said this was only 200 acres and to top that off the hogs and exotics come running to the sound of trucks, because they are hand fed!
I know this because about a month ago I was invited on a hog "hunt."
When I got there we were shown around the ranch in a jeep and the animals came running out for a free hand out! The next morning we were placed on stands and as our "guide" drove off, he turns on a tailgater feeder and leaves a 20 yard trail of corn and almost runs over animals on the way out! I did not like this situation at all, but because I was invited by one of my co-workers I did not vent my feelings that this is not "hunting!" I know now that I should have spoken up, one lesson learned!
Getting back to this picture and "so called "hunting" article, I know that everything in the article is a lie, the hog was not stalked or hunted, it was killed! You could have walked up to it and pet it's head and slit it's throat if you wanted to save an arrow! It was not a "wild" hog, it did not even get up when jeeps drove by it! This "wild" hog even had a name, "Big Jake!" Oh yeah and it also had a price tag! 500 dollars!
I am so mad at this outright lie that I could eat 16 penny nails and spit out 125 gr. Thunderheads!
I intend to write the outdoor columnist, and inform him (if he is not a knowing party to this lie) and tell him the real story!
In closing I have a question. I am thinking of writing an editorial to expose this garbage (Assuming the paper would print it!)
My only hesitation here is will this do more harm than good, by stirring up the anti-hunters? Or should I leave it at a letter to the columist and shop owner?

Sounds like your in a real pickle. I to agree on the high fence thing, for hogs and exotics its fine if its thousands of acres. As for whitetails, im pretty sceptical. Anyway, about the "hunter" u may end up causin more harm than good. Yea hes gettin a name for himself as shootin an 800 pound pig, but is it really worth getting your name in there to saying what he did? It may be takin by some people as gelousy(i personally agree with u on the fact that hes lieng and wouldnt want him to have the recognition) but i dont know as if its worth comin out and actually saying what he really did. The final decision comes down to you, but make sure you think long and hard about it.

it's people like him who give respectable hunters a bad name. something should be done! at the very least, i would let him know that you know, he is not telling the truth. even if you don't want your name known. send a letter to him and sign it: FROM A REAL HUNTER!

GOOD LUCK HUNTING!<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

Jag,
Go for it. You have the opportunity to show the non-hunting public the difference between hunters, and shooters. Word it carefully, be polite and professional. The non-hunting public, who will one day decide weather they are for or against hunting, are the ones that we need to convince the most. Do what you can to bring them over to our side.
Good Luck,
Trebark

Bashing any type of hunting is bashing hunting. Even if you dont like it or agree with it.

I dont like deer hunting with dogs, but I dont slam the guys that do it.

I dont know what to do. Any thing you do wont be good, but it will make you feel better.

If I read your post right, it ain't so much that he killed it where he did, but that it wasn't true...Right? (I know you said you went to the same place and disagreed with the operation, but had he told the truth and would it be OK?) Newspaper's that print articles are subject to the facts given, however they can if just cause is given retract statements in an editor type column. This maybe a quiet way to get the truth out. I think in this case I would right a letter to the &quot;hunter/BS artist&quot; and the story writer if different, just giving them the heads up this stuff is not good for hunting in general. Let them know you know the real facts and in future don't pump something thats not or it could become damaging to the sport. Also maybe mention if the guys biz ever goes teets up, he could try a career as a friction writer...man gall I tell you, why would he ever put such a BS Story in the public and really why? Oh maybe b/c is biz is going teets up and generate a little flow....marketing!

Good luck, tough situation!
