Default Archery Shop pricing

I have one particular archery shop where I do alot of shooting/business. Since a recent purchase of a my bow I have been pricing and looking around and this shop is priced $20 more on major accesories like releases, sights, rest just to name a few. I excepted that and paid to support my local shop. But I have ran into a couple guys I have ran into ,one in particular had the shops hat on so I approched him and mentioned the shop and first words were they charged me way to much for my gear............ So my question is do I bring this to his attention that he is charging too much and me and others might save a buck or 2 by shopping around. He just bought the shop so I don't know if this is par for a small private private business or is he racking us for his own benifit. I don't want to burn bridges but if this info could help him or us both maybe I should say something. What is you guys opinion on this. Sorry for the long story.

it is true that he does pay higher cost than wal-mart, cabelas',and other stores that carry gear, i for one hope to see him make it, when u need advise for a rest, sight, or other gear he will give advise, does wal-mart know anything about archery?[&:] sometimes it is worth paying more for the long run benifits! just the way i look at it, or my .02

Why does it matter? If the shop is good and you are getting your moneys worth whether this guy is "racking it up" or not is none of your business.

It is his business to know what he can charge for a product. Some time just ask him if he knows what so and so charges for some thing. Let him answer without setting him straight, if need be. He'll get the idea. If it's worth it, pay it, if not, go some where else and wait for the "Going out of Business sale".

I don't mind paying a little more at a shop because I would rather give my business to a local guy than I would BassPro or Walmart etc. BUT $20 more on accessories is a BIG markup and I don't think I would be willing to pay that much more especially on items like releases that don't require any of the shops time. If it was an accessory that they put on or something then maybe.

I doubt I would say anything. I wouldn't want to burn a bridge or start a confrontation. I would leave that door open so that when I was in a crunch and really needed something I could go there and get it. When I wasn't in a crunch I would by from the mass merchants or from a shop that was cheaper. Sooner or later he will get the picture. You want to see a guy succeed and make money etc. but what he has to understand is that he can't make it all on one sale. JMO

What I see, being in reatail myself, is the smaller guy pays a little more because they cannot buy in the mass quantity like the Walmarts, Cabelas, and such. We sell major appliances and furniture and get hammered with shipping costs, you have to make that up somewhere and still keep the lights on. We have a proshop here that is a tad high but, I will bring him my buisness if he keeps up the good customer service!!! You can get that bow fixed there or some arrows refletched where you cannot at Walmart.

YOU KNOW ..O HAVE NO PROBLEM PAYING A "LITTLE" MORE TO SUPPORT MY LOCAL PRO SHOP ..MAYBE 15 TO 20% MORE THEN A WAL-MART OR EVEN A CABELA'S ...AND THAT IS OUT OF A SINCE OF LOYALTY ..BUT WITH THAT BEING SAID I THINK THE SHOP OWES ME A LITTLE LOYALITY TO AND SHOULD NOT TAKE ADVATAGE OF MY BUSINESS BY CHARGING ME 30 AND 40 % MORE .... WE HAVE A LOCAL PRO SHOP HERE AND I HAVE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN ..I APPROCHED THE OWNER AND EXPRESSED MY CONCERNS AND SHE CORRECTED IT ... I THINK YOU HAVE TO LIVE AND LET LIVE ...SHE AGREED ...

Average markup at many local shops is between 30 and 40 percent. More than that and I would question it as well. Even with an average markup of about 35% that is still very comparable to what you would find at a place like Cabelas. In some cases the small guy may take a bigger hit because of such things as shipping costs on some items and he, in turn, has to pass that on to the consumer.

Can you tell I have been doing alot of ordering for the local shop lately?

I say it depends on your budget. If you need to be thrifty for you and your family the you should bargain hunt for your gear. You save 10 bucks 10 different times and that,s a dozen carbons in your quiver.
