because if you're not at that 3rd picture level, then what you're looking for is an easier way, a shortcut
The guy next door I chatted with last night and he's like, yeah, a few little bucks around and I'm thinking hot DAMN ! A little buck would make my frickin day with my recurve !

..................: (HIPO.................CRITE..............
If you are looking to make things sooooooo hard.......pass the dinks...............You may have already taged some mature bucks with the ole stick.......awesome!
But just because the stick is in your hand......does not make YOUR hunt any harder than those who carry binary cams
.................I am really starting to think the "stickers" who claim a x-bow is the same as a compound are looking for a self pat on the ole-back.............after all they hunt with a "stick" for Gods sake
I continue to stand steadfast (sorry DB) that a compound and X-bow have NOTHING in common when it comes to form - execution - decipline - and setup. They may very well deserve a season..but not in "archery season".
When a x-bow shooter can't hit the side of a barn because he has "target panic" or can't get the thing to tune because his "grip" is bad, or is struggling because he has an inconsistant anchor, or is snap shooting........or is shooting the wrong dl and has to many muscles involved or etc. or etc. or etc...............................
THEN WE CAN TALK....

You're right Rack - attack.
I can't imagine being an able bodied man and using a xbow. Might as well have a sign on your back that says "I have no archery skill whatsoever!"
Cowboy up and use a bow and arrow.

I catorgize archery equipment into two segments. Mechanical, which includes crossbows and compound bows. Both use wheels, cables, triggers, releases, drop away rests ect..Then there is non mechanical. This includes longbows and recurves.
Even thou they are all very different they still basicaly do the same thing, and that is to propel an arrow with a string. Making them all archery equipment.
Being from Ohio, crossbows have not negativively effected are archery season at all.
Alot has been made about the fact that a compound bow still has to be drawn. But the fact remains that the challenge of this act has been reduced by the height of your tree stand or the use of a ground blind.
I do not hunt with a crossbow, but hunt with a guy who does. We always have a good time together. Maybe thats why I never understand why there is such negativity towards somebody because of the weapon they choose.

Guys who shoot recurves, compounds, and especially crossbows arent real hunters. I hunt with a spear.
Guess what? Recurves and longbows have evolved as much as compounds have! The first people who hunted with longbows and recurves used arrowheads made from limestone and marble, not stainless steel! And the arrows! Dont get me started...The Native Americans hand made there arrows. They didnt have bowshops and custom kits to make there arrows perfectly straight.
My point: I shoot a PSE Mach 12. I am a very busy person and only have a chance to shoot maybe an hour a week in the off-season. You want me to shoot a recurve or longbow huh? Okay, but I might hit the deer in the ass, who knows, maybe the leg? To shoot a traditional bow you have to practice roughly and hour a day. Just guestimating there. I shoot a compound bow because I cannot hunt with a traditional bow and be ethical. I can kill a deer with a compound bow and a crossbow comfortably. IMO a compound is more of a challenge than a crossbow...soooo I hunt with a compound because its the most challenge I can get out of a weapon and still be ETHICAL! data, I dont understand you. You shoot a crossbow and a recurve but dont like compounds. I just dont get it. You have probably been around the sport longer than me but it just doesnt add up. Tell me if you understand where Im coming from on my situation.

You don't think crossbow shooters get nervous too ? You don't think they need practice too ? You don't think they WAY they shoot effects their arrow flight ?
Are you under the impression you can buy a crossbow at 4 pm, unpack it, cock it, insert an arrow and hit the lungs of a McKenzie at 75 yards ?
Guess what? Recurves and longbows have evolved as much as compounds have!
How ? Go ahead ......... list all the ways. I'll check back later with your revelations

Every deer that comes by me with a compound is pretty much a dead deer. A Trad bow ? Vastly different game. ANY deer with a trad bow is a heck of a trophy IMO
Looks like YOU are the one trying to make it easier on yourself by shooting ANY deer with a stick.......
If you choose to shoot a harder weapon to master I am all for it - good for you!!
But don't at the same time brown its down it and soapbox how hard you have made it for yourself
Or are you talking non-sense and trying to use that non-sense to justify your elitist attitude ?
or because I didn't say this............
Someone actually spending the time and effort to MAKE a bow with their own hands, hours and hours of practicing and learning the art or archery, making the arrows and everything THEN going hunting and killing something with it.

Put a weapon in someone's hands that is easier to shoot=more tags sold=more money for the manufacturer=more money for each state's DNR. Now everyone is happy
They did it 40 years ago........... its called a compound

1)Datamax..oops I mean Feral whatever...spewing endless information that he's said over, and over, and over, and over before. Get some new material. When it comes right down to it, you are a trad elitest and dang proud of it. Well...whatever floats your boat I guess. You are so proud of the fact that you shoot trad and how now it's so hard to hunt deer that you let us know about it. Compound to you is a slam dunk so you've moved to something that's tougher. My hats off to you. I think you argue to argue, but of course that's my opinion.
2)There are so many people that just get so fired up about this xbow thing that it's just down right comical! Keep it up! This board gets boring with the same old stuff once and awhile.

data, Im not attacking longbows and recurves, Im telling you why I dont use them and why I shoot a compound opposed to a crossbow.
My point was that in one breath you talk about making the sport harder with your stick - then in the next breath you talk about lowering your standards "because" you are shooting a stick..............

elitist???.............because I know a crossbow is not a compound?.............

My recurve doesn't change much.

See ? Now you get it, don't you ? To you, in your eyes, a crossbow is ridiculously easy, and your compound is so much tougher ....... why heck, those crossbows shouldn't be allowed they're so easy !
Hmmmmmmmm
Your compound is super easy to me. Shouldn't I think the same thoughts ?
Hmmmmmmm ?

I for one am glad to see Tennesse allow crossbows, I hope more states do the same. Will I hunt with one if it's legal here in Illinois? Probably not....I like my compound thanks. To me it's just another tool to allow folks to get into the wood and hunt during archery season, way cool.
To me it's simple....a crossbow is a form of a bow, just like a compound is a form of a bow, just like a recurve is a form of a bow, just like a long bow is a for.........no, that IS a bow....get it?
