Default bow strings

i got a mathewes outback from a pawn shop and the strings are beginning to look a little worn and my peep is twisting out if line. my question is: what is a decent bowstring and how much does it cost. i dont really need a top of the line string. just something for hunting and a small town leage. that being said, i dont want a P.O.S. either. thanx for any help.

Well, you've already gotten a tates of Zebra strings probably. That's what Mathews puts on them from the factory so take this to heart. Don't get Zebra.

There are plenty of people making aftermarket strings for about the same money that are of better quality. Right here on this site the is MeanV who handles Vapor Trail, if I'm right. Then there's Gibblet that makes Bucknasty strings. Prostrings is another one I've had good luck with. H&M is supposedly pretty good. There are lots of others.

What you need to figure out is if you just want a string or a complete string/cable set. Ask these guys their prices or visit their websites. All have good customer service. If the string comes to you and isn't right they'll make it right.

From what I can find H&M sells strings for solo cams at about $26 (low end of price range) up to $60 for Winner's Choice. This doesn't necessarily mean that WC is a better string. It just means that their's cost more.

You could also do a search for custom strings on www.archerytalk.com and come up with more choices. You might also ask at one or more archery shops in your area. You may run into one that makes good strings or know somebody around that does. Peersonally I'd put a complete set on the bow. Then you'll know what you have.

Don't forget that you'll have to have somebody install it so ask what that would cost, too.

If you are interested in a price on anything from VaporTrail shoot me a PM.

IMHO they are as good as any custom strings on the market.

If it was me I wouldn't change just the string butget a new cable also, especially if you're paying someone else to do it for you. MeanV is a great guy to deal with, he's gone out of his way to help me.
