I just thought I would share some excellent knives that cost less than $20. I'm not selling these.......just listing what they cost

Most of these knives are made from the same steel that will cost you $100+
From left to right.
1. An Ontario skinning/butcher knife customized to a nessmuk style------ $10

When I say customized I don't mean I re handled them. I just did some sanding on the factory handles.

Great group of knives Rockport! I can't justify the high priced cutlery in today's market!
My go-to skinner is an old Coleman-Western Skinner, from way back when they were made in America!
Kind of foolish paying 100's for a knife that my 20$ knife can out do!

Yep! That's the one! I've got more expensive, brand name knives, but the old Coleman-Western is always the one that goes to the deer camp!

Whatever it is that is some good steel. I have 3 different blade designs in that knife. They were also re branded as "Remington" at one time.

They were made by Cammilus in NY before they sold out and started making junk. I used to have the fillet knife as well.

I prefer a more universal handle but the steel is great. I'm guessing its just 420HC with a very good heat treat.

They were branded as Coleman, western, Coleman-western, and Remington.

They still float around on ebay for cheap because most people don't know the difference between them and the knife you can get at wal mart that looks just like them but says China on the blade.

My skinner actually says Cammilus on it, the 2nd one says coleman wester and the 3rd says Remington but the are all made by Cammilus in NY

There are several on ebay right now going for very cheap if you can sift through the look alike junk. They still make one that says Cammilus on it so don't be fooled by that. All you have to do is make sure it says USA on it and its the real deal.

Mine looks like the top one except it is marked Coleman-Western. I'll have to start looking on E-bay, I wouldn't mind having a couple more of them. I actually like the handle, the grooves fit me just fine, does not slip and the blade holds a darn good edge. It's been skinning deer for 30+ years now and it has de-boned a few too!

I like the grip with just the basic holding but I tend to hold my knives lots of different ways. I looked it up they are just 420HC like buck uses but they really must have hardened them. Mine are brittle and prone to chipping even on bone Ive chipped the blades but that is the tradeoff for holding a fine edge and they weren't made to chop bone.

Ive looked at Jeff Whites knives before so I'm glad to see the information.

I have a few nice knives in my collection. Even a few customs, but they never go anywhere. I have a whole bunch of Morakniv Companions that always end up doing all the heavy lifting. Another budget blade I like is the Marttiini Big Game Hunter. I don't use it as often as the Mora's but it's still a great knife for the price.
