Whatever it is that is some good steel. I have 3 different blade designs in that knife. They were also re branded as "Remington" at one time.
They were made by Cammilus in NY before they sold out and started making junk. I used to have the fillet knife as well.
I prefer a more universal handle but the steel is great. I'm guessing its just 420HC with a very good heat treat.
They were branded as Coleman, western, Coleman-western, and Remington.
They still float around on ebay for cheap because most people don't know the difference between them and the knife you can get at wal mart that looks just like them but says China on the blade.
