If you want to shoot smokeless powder I would say good deal. If you are not allowed to use smokeless in your state (Arizona does not allow smokeless in Muzzleloader season) I would not pick the Savage due to the expense of replacing the tube "thingy" that burns out. I think they are a couple of bucks each if you can find them.

Just a newbies opinion.I think we will all be using smokeless before long. The inlines are attracting more people and shooting is gonna be fun again.I shot trap for 30 yrs and must say that 4756 was the smoothest hottest load I ever rolled in a double AA.There was another powder we all used for backup shells it began with a 5???

Now here's the question? Why couldn't we use smokeless now? in any gun stamped magnum?I think we could if we had the proper amount and powder. It would be cleaner cheaper and zingier.I don't want to argue,I want to be safe, I don't know much but why can't we use it NOW?

The sales have started... I just got my Cabela's Mid Winter Sale Catalog. In there they have a Thompson Center Black Diamond XR in .45 or .50 caliber for $179.99. They also have a Knight American Knight for $89.99. Both of those are great rifles. I have a Black Diamond XR and a Knight Wolverine II which is about the same thing as a Knight American and they are excellent rifles.....

The deals have started. As for a smokeless powder rifle.. Nope. Not for me. I like muzzleloaders and I like the black powder aspect of them. If I ever get to where I have to shoot a smokeless powder muzzleloader I will get a single shot centerfire.

The reason you can't use smokeless now is that the rifles that are designed for black powder will not withstand the pressures developed by most smokeless powder. The Savage was designed specifically for smokeless and has a far greater pressure resistant action and breech design. If you want almost the same as smokeless loads for the muzzleloaders just get some Black Mag3 powder. It is almost as clean as smokeless but will not develop the dangerous pressures.

Indeed they are. I was just going to post about the sale, I think thats a great deal on the black diamond. I've been lurking here for some time and seen how well the black diamond has performed. Thats why I just bought one.
