RE: Walmart

Rick,
I hope it wasn't me that offended you. If you read my replies, you will see that I admit to shopping there. They have messed up alot of little towns and swallowed up alot of mom&pops. That is life in a free society, I guess. I do shop there but I don't have to feel good about it, do I?

hey red....you must be one of them mom & pop store owners or a rolling in the riches dude that wouldn't be caught dead in a wal-mart store....wal-mart takes alot of hits on products that don't sell and sell it for less then they bought it for....boy that's a profit aint it....just cause you saw a tv show bout wal-mart and how they done some things to other people and there products doesn't mean they are making profit on everything...."example" rubbermaid said that they have to raise there prices cause of resin prices went up and had coop some of the expence....wal-mart said were not going to sell your product any more cause of higher prices....well rubbermaid almost went under til they got back with wal-mart and kept there prices down and now there just as big if not bigger then before all this with wal-mart dropping there product line of plastic bins and stuff....i guess the morel of the story is if you want to stay in the market you have to do what is needes to do so....my 2 cents worth and not because i work at wal-mart.....atleast i know what i'm talking bout before i talk......................bob

RE: Walmart

bob if you love your job with Wal-Mart then good for you, you NEVER work a day in your life if you enjoy getting up and going too work each day. BUT I hope you are comfortable making XX dollars an hour. Oh you "could" prove yourself and move up within the company but be prepared for LOOOOOOOONG salaried hours, moving every two years and up-rooting your family. And for what? That job you LOVE? Trust me, I lived next door to a "hatchet man" that came from the corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark. He was a GREAT guy, we rode Harley's and shared a love for sports cars. BUT even he admitted that having moved allover the country was the reason he was on his second marriage, didnt have kids (had sense enough NOT to bring them into that environment) and was simply waiting for the day he could retire without being raped by the governement for tax purposes. Now this was a man that earned a 6 figure salary and answered too the top brass in Ark. So go ahead and keep on thinking you know ALL there is to know about Wal-Mart.

Livbuck, THANK YOU. You hit the nail directly on the head. Most communities are just IGNORANT of the truth. Everyone says, "yeah I want you to make a profit" but they do it with tongue in cheek and they it really means "I want you to make a profit on someone OTHER than myself!".

PhoenixMA you'll learn bud. I wish you THE greatest success in the world and I hope you make more money than your grandkids can spend. BUT after you have been in the business world (real world if you will) after your 5th year, THEN you will have a different perspective about "capitalism". Making a profit is getting harder and harder. Customers demand unreasonable discounts, sales during peak profit expectation times (like right now during Christmas) and then after you lower your prices to compete along comes taxation that is getting worse and worse. Everytime you earn a profit the government (both local, state AND Federal) look to whack you off at the knees. Trust me, working for someone else is a leadpipe cinch compared to doing it yourself. I just wish most employees had a clue as too that statements correctness!!!

Hey, MERRY CHRISTMAS too EVERYONE on this board... even you Wallyworld patrons!!!

RE: Walmart

If only it were that simple. Its good to save a few bucks at Walmart. Just realize that RA is right. Walmart now buys 80 percent of its products from China and uses cheap chinese labor to drive American companies out of business, or over to China. At one time the manufactures made a product, set a price and sold it. Now Walmart says to them " We will pay xx dollars for your product, sell it for that or the chinese will. Like I said its not a simple problem but we will pay the price in the end. We just don't know yet what that price will be. By the way. I HOPE I AM WRONG. Is Walmart good for America? I doubt it. Yes I buy some things at Walmart. They are about the only thing left in this town. I can buy there or drive a 100 miles.

RE: Walmart

Eeeeeeeeeeasy Bob, you mis-understood me. I guess you have never heard the phrase, "If you love your job, you will never work a day in your life". That means that since its your love you wont feel like its a bother or drudgery or "work" everyday you get up and go in. I wasnt saying ANYTHING about your work ethic.

I wish EVERYONE could be in such a position, the workforce in this country would be MUCH better off. But thats for another day.

I said my piece,
RA

RE: Walmart

If you show me a mom and pop store that sells only American or mostly American products,I will shop there in a minute. They just aren't out there.I do spend more and buy American on most of my big purchases. How can any mom and pop store compete against any chain? They can't.It is a fact of life so they have to get customers by going the extra mile to have excellent service.I love in my area how union Tops grocery chain is against Walmart. They pay about the same but you make more at Walmart by not paying union dues. They are afraid of competition.Tops moved from one location and built a new store but still paid rent on the old location so that no other stores could come in and compete. It is business. How many of you are willing to pay $200 for a Leupold scope when you cvan buy a Bushnell for $100?Not many.I did and am proud to say I try to buy American when i can.My muzzleloader is a TC Omega made in the good old USA.My kitchen knives cost me $700 but they were made not far from here by Cutco. They will be around long after the cheap Chinese knives.Don't buy brakes from China if you want them to last, they are so bad and wear out quickly. The quality of steel made in China and Japan can't compare to that made in the good old USA.They make it like plywood in layers not slabs like we make it.If I were President, the first law I would pass is that anything sold in the US with a flag on it would have to be made in America.I hate seeing those support our troops magnets made in China.A total joke.

RE: Walmart

lol mdr this one could get INTERESTING!!! You mentioned the troop ribbons, what REALLY gripes me is seeing an American Flag on a Toyota/Nissan/Hyundai etc...

In all fairness, its just TOO late anymore to buy most products that are supplied domestically. The last 15 years or so (the "big growth" period for Wallyworld) has seen basically all the domestic mnfgrs leave the country for cheaper labor. Sure its partially the governments fault for supporting laws like "most favored trading nations" (that miserable excuse for a President Klintoon, he had to do something with all that weapons secrets he allowed them to have!) but its equally the everyday's citizens fault for "demanding cheaper prices" regardless of where they came from or what was necessary to get those "cheaper prices".

And one more thing before I slide this soapbox back under the desk and carry my kids out to sled, folks know they are wrong. Its a pyschological game they play with themselves. They say, "the best deal" when in actuality they mean "the cheapest price". But they cant bring themselves to admit it. Typical "ignore the facts" type of response by most Americans. Buncha CHEAPIES!!! See how cheap those products were when our kids and grandkids are working 2 hourly pay jobs to support themselves in coming generations!!!

Patriotism shouldn't stop in your checkbook,
