I live in Indiana, so rifles are illegal to hunt deer with, you have to use a shotgun or a muzzleloader.... so I have been thinking of which one to get, but I also plan on hunting in tennesse and other places where I can also use a rifle. I heard that Muzzleloaders can be changed to other rifles like a .308 ect... if so then I would think buying a muzzleloader would be perfect, and after I saw my cousin hit that 250 yard shot with his T/C(which I doubt I would even try with a shotgun(could it even do that??) that a muzzie might be right for me... But who makes a good muzzie for a nice price/ I know I can go out and get a mossberg or remington for around $600 if that... what about a muzzleloader? can I make it a rifle also? or how does that work???
Thanks

kinda hard to follow what yout talking about. You can buy a tompson encore in 50 cal. and get a center fire rifle barrel and forearm to go with it but the whole package scope mounts and all will run you about $900. then you still got to buy scopes or just use open sights. If i was going to hunt in a shotgun or ml area only i would go with a ml in 50 cal. if it's alright to use a inline and 209 primers i would get a knight rifle or another good grade inline and get the best scope you can buy,the simmons atec is a medium grade scope for about $150. Once you learn how to use it and care for it that is all the gun you would ever need for deer, bear, elk, moose or possums. You can be a fair shot out to about a 100 yards and with lots of practice you can extend your range another 100yards or so. Here is a picture of one of my blackpowder guns it a knight mk 85 predator in 50 cal it has breech plugs to use either 209,# 11 or centerfire rifle primers,it has a smoke gray lam stock and a s.s barrel it's scoped with a atec 2.8 x10x 50 .now you don't need all the bells and whistles to have a good shooter its just something extra. I have had this gun for over 14 years and never had a misfire or any other problem. And it has took more big game than most the center fire rifles in my neighborhood.

little-d is right. You can get a Thompson Center Encore in .50 caliber and then later, as you get more money add some of the different barrels and shotgun barrels to it. The muzzleloader barrel with a scope and the right bullet and practice of course, it is a 200+ yard rifle. People prove that every day. They are the top of the line in Thompson Center so be prepared to pay top dollar for one. I personally have no need for the center fire aspect of it, because I hunt with only muzzleloaders. So for me there are many other brands out there that do me just fine. Although I own several Thompson Center rifles because of their quality...

Bought a T/C Omega earlier this year and love it! This Thursday (11/2) will be my first time taking it out hunting, but I've put plenty of range time in already...and the more I shoot it, the more I'm glad I bought one. Shop around though...there are plenty of good, high quality guns out there that will fit in the confines of your budget.
