i keep reading about how you should take the bolt apart and clean it and was wondering how doyou take the bolt apart, thanks

First, you must buy a vice.

Their is a tool rem sells specifically for tear down of the bolt...of course being stupid I never looked into it and use a swiss army knife with the flathead scredriver attachment. You can also clamp a good sized flathead in a vice then place in the slot and unscrew. Basically you need to pull up on the firing pin by way of the slot and unscrew. Once apart I wipe down to remove grease and grim, then I spray on cleaner, either windex, breakfree or BP Solvant. I use a cheap tooth brush, then rinse in hot water, wipe down again and let air dry. Bolt I use a baby tooth brush or small patchs with cleaner and then rinse and dry patch, let air dry, regrease and put back together. It by far takes the most time but my bolt looks like new inside and never has had any problems in 6 years with it not going bang!

The information skeeter 7MM gave you is right on track - the only thing I might do different is I use a wire tooth brush device available in the sporting good section with cleaning equipment - I prefer the brass/bronze brush over the steel but either will work. You must stop rust on the bolt spring so clean it and give a good coat of oil. Be careful what type of oil you use because you need the bolt to work in really cold temps...

If you are using 209's for the ignition and still using the Remington system - I would suggest you look into the Canadian conversion available at Cabelas

This system provides much less blowback and much easier to de-cap - get the spent 209 out of the nipple..

I have two of the SS 700's and would not trade them for the fanciest new thing out there...
