Read the thread discussing pros and cons of 209 primers and #11 caps. My question is , any body have any thing to say good or bad about musket caps. I've had good luck but would like to hear other input.

Musket caps are much easier to handle when you have cold fingers, which is an advantage if you don't have a good capper. Also, some of them may be (probably are) hotter than standard #11 caps, but I haven't found them to be better than CCI #11 magnum caps, and they don't hold a candle to the #209 shotgun primers!!

I changed my gun over from #11 to musket caps this last season. I neaver had a shot not go off or hang fire on me but what I like the most is muskrt caps arealot easyer to get off the nipple because they have a lip to get ahold of I didnt have to dig for my knife once to get them off.

Adui13, the CCI # 11 mag caps are available from MidSouth shooters supply. Order#020-0310
24.93 per 1000. There is a 40.00 minimum order. You also have to add UPS's outrageious Haz Mat fee.Probably be better off finding them locally or get a group together and order plenty at one time.It also says min of 5000 at a time. I have ordered 2000 and was told it didn't matter if I didn't order the 5000.It was the same price per 1000. Ruger Redhawk www.midsouthshooterssupply.com

Adui13, the CCI Magnum caps say #11 MAGNUM on the can, and it seems they still make the regular ones also. I buy mine at Fort Chambers Muzzleloading Gunshop in Chambersburg PA, or Franks Shooting Supplies in Canastota NY, but, seeing that you are in Oregon, I'm afraid this info doesn't help you much!! Hope you can find some locally, or have your gunshop order you some, so you don't have to pay a hazmat fee to ship them to you. I think Cabelas and Bass Pro Shops also sell them.

Thanks Larry,
I will check around locally, I usually by my caps a Bi Mart, but if they cant order them for me I know a gunsmith in the area that also shoots BP, he is just a bit farther away and charges a bit more.
Just my uneducated opinion!

I've found the regular CCI #11 caps and the magnum caps at just about any store that carrys M/L accessories. The tins look alike. Look real close to be sure you're getting magnum caps if that's what you want. The caps appear identical to me. So take care that the tins don't open in your pocket if you're carrying both types.

Wow, I must have gotten hold of a bad batch the season before last. When I got my muzzleloader, I didn't even try the 11's. I immediately switched to musket caps. That rifle had 2 misfires on deer that season. I switched back to 11's and haven't had a problem since.
Incidently, the gun never misfired at the range. It only misfired in hunting situation with a deer under the stand. Once for me and once for my son.
That kinda left us with a "bad taste in our mouths" for musket caps. I have since gotten a NEF muzzleloader that uses 209 primers, but I haven't shot it yet. Still have the no.11 nipple on the CVA though.
