Dilemma Time..should I???
#1
Funny just looked at rugers post and got me thinking "hey I am feeling guilty and not sure what to do"..so guys/gals help me.
I have the opportunity to buy a Savage ML10IISS with accutrigger at wholesale price. I have handled this gun, shot last years model and have even said to those looking for an inline to take a boo at savage. Here is my dilemma I have a ML that I am extremely happy with and more importantly confidence in when I take to the field, so not really in the market for a new load/combo project but when opportunity knocks!
My questions are:
Anybody have this savage?
How does it shoot compared to your previous inline? Did you notice a stark difference in accuracy, bullet drop, etc from your previous ML?(Using T7 or Pyrodex)
Anybody try loading IMR and if so how did it fair?
Is it picky in load combos or pretty decent?
How is it to clean?
I have re-read all the reviews since this deal was presented to me but am looking for the average joe like me thoughts not somebody paid or sponsered to endorse the product!
I can use IMR or any BP or sub here as of today, as long as it front stuffs and needs a primer to ignite it is GTG. The concept always has intrigued me and Savage are no slouches when comes to accuracy or building a good functioning rifle. At the price my head says go for it upgrade and save, but I do have the guilty heart that says you don't need it and what about old faithful. So do I or don't I?
Thanks

Skeeter,I 've never shot a SavageML10IISS, I would suggest contacting one shot one kill on this site. If I'm not mistaken he was involved in the development of the Savage ML's.I know he's very knowledgeable about them.He would be the one to ask opinions about it. I should say ask facts about it.I've heard they shoot well but that's just hear say on my part. It's not everyday you can get a quality rifle at wholesale prices.Feeling guilty make the deal even better. Been there and done that.

personally i think the savage smokeless muzzleloader is fine. except it should only be used during modern (smokeless powder) season. late season muzzleloading is meant to be a challenge. i think that is why most of us got involved in or stayed in black powder. besides how many states actually allow the legal use of smokeless powder during their muzzleloader season? i don't know of any..

Skeeter,
If it were me and I really wanted to try out the gun and the price was right, I would buy it. As long as my wife would not shoot me with it.
Take it to the range and try it out. If you like it and it shoots to your likeing, than try it during huning season, if legal.
Don't worry about old reliable, since he will still be there when you try out this new gun. He will still be in your gun case, waiting for you to return to him. When you have broken in the new gun, remeber your old friend and give him a new try. Sometimes, you may find that something new, is not always something better, just new.
Have fun and enjoy the sport is what matters since we only live once.
If the gun is not to your liking, than sell it so that someone else can enjoy it.

In our State the only way you could use the Savage is by loading black powder during our muzzleloader season. Whether or not you should buy it is a personal decision. Needing the rifle is not the question. Wanting the rifle is the question. If you want it and the cost of the rifle and all the new gear needed to shoot it is not a problem, then get it.
I own numerous muzzleloaders. Do I need them? No.. but they are fun to have because I really enjoy taking them out and shooting them, whether hunting or target shooting.
As for accuracy, the Savage will shoot as good as you are. I am sure if your old one is accurate like you say, you might not really see all that much improvement in accuracy over the Savage. I have a CVA Staghorn and it is a very accurate rifle. I also have T/C and a Knight. They also are accurate.
From all I have heard, they are a beautiful well balanced, accurate rifle. I am sure if you got it and then changed you mind you could always sell it for near what you have invested in it. I personally am one of these people that once I own a rifle it is mine forever.

Thanks guys, no savage for me this year. A few untimely replacements required at the homestead made my wifes reasoning sound more realistic spelling the demise of this purchase. However I must admit I never went down kicking and screaming, so obviously I didn't want it to badly.
