Default Wonderwads or Bore Buttons

I wanted to make my own wonderwads or some people call them bore buttons. I wanted them for the .50 & .54 caliber rifles. I bought a set of Hollow Hole Punches making sure I had a 1/2 inch and a 9/16th inch punch.

I bought felt insulation strip at the hardware store. I punched the buttons out of the felt, and some out of cardboard and leather. I soaked the felt wads in homemade lube then let them reharden between paper towels.

Today I tried them out. They fit perfect which means I will not have to buy them anymore. The punches are not expensive, and a roll of felt is about $1.99 which would make a lot more then I might need for a while....

I use then between the powder charges and the projectiles...

Mauser06 this is the site where I got the Hollow Hole Punches.

http://www.brooklandsales.com/products/index.html

the 1/2 inch punch will make the bore buttons for a .50 caliber. And the felt I buy at a Hardware/lumber yard. It is the gray felt strip that we tuck around the doors and windows and push into cracks.....

When you shoot concials if you want to try some,

http://stores.ebay.com/blackjackhillhuntingandfishing

take and look at his site. You can buy them there and he even pays the shipping. Bill's quality is real good. You would want to look into a .50 caliber 250 grain REAL or a 320 grain REAL. I think you will find the 250 grain might work the best out of the slower twist.....

And your right it is a good way to spend a day inside when you can't get out.....

Bore Butter works excellent. Just melt a little in the microwave and stir the wads in it. As for the site, when you get to it, you will think it is a junk site or something. Look on the right side of the page and you will see heading for muzzleloader bullets and handgun bullets. Judy and Bill have been wonderful people to do business with.... If you have any questions about a bullet or conical, just e-mail them. Bill is a black powder shooter himself, and he will tell you how they work for him too.

I have more bullets coming in the mail now. Some 501 grain conicals for try out in the Black Diamond...
