Mauser,
I don't know how close you are to State College, but there is a company called RMC Sports in a town called Mingoville, which is between State College and Lamar. RMC has a store at their plant. They sell T/C and Lyman among others, plus all of the accessories that they manufacture.

I talked to Mr. Rightnauer, the owner, on my last trip through and he told me that they always stock Lyman frizzens which have been altered to fit T/C's.

Of course, I learned this long after I had altered and installed my own. I recommend a Dremel tool with a flat wheel. Lyman frizzens are very hard, and you only have to remove a few thousandths from each side. The job takes about five minutes. Just be sure to cut the ends square so that, when you insert the frizzen screw and flip the frizzen back and forth, it does not bind on the sides.

hey keys....is the extry hard frizzen they sell just a lyman frizzen or is it a T/C hardend frizzen....i have not called them to find out yet....T/C since a few years ago changed there lock to be just about as good as anything else out now....also when i called T/C about there frizzen and gave them my ser number of my gun they said i had the new updated lock and harder frizzen and when it ever wore out just send it in to get it replaced with my warrinty....mauser i shoot my gun with the bevel of the flint up ____\....it stopped the extry wear that you are probily having....the top of my frizzen has a line across the top of the it that is about 1/16" deep untill i changed it around....now it is wore evenly all the way down the face of the frizzen....and have new cut agate flints now with about 75 shots on it now with out a misfire or new flint............................bob

Bob,
I am not sure, but I think they just use a stock Lyman frizzen which has been ground to fit a T/C lock.

My Hawken is old, approximately 1976, and had the color case hardened frizzen from new. After a couple of hundred shots, the case hardening wore off, and it was soft (easily cut with a file) underneath.

T/C's customer service has always been excellent. We played musical frizzens for years. Actually, I still have the last one that they sent me in my shooting box.

I have heard that T/C has made some changes in their lock, but in all honesty, I have never had a major problem with mine, other than the frizzen.

These days, I usually hunt with my Lyman Deerstalker, but I still enjoy shooting the old Hawken.

Mauser,
The boss that the frizzen screw goes through is a bit wider than the notch n the lock. Just grind a bit off each side until it fits without binding.
