495 No Excuses
Anyone here use them? I just bought a box,to try out of my Knight Disc Rifle, and have Triple 7 Powder on hand. But im hearing that Pyrodex P is more suitable to use with the big Conicals. Also at what Velocity does Leading of the Barrel become a problem.I was thinking of trying 70 Grains of T-7, ffg,up to 90 Grains. Will these powder charges, result in leading, out of a 26" Barrel, with these bullet's?.

I use the 460 gr in my .451 cal White M98, great conicals. I use 80 gr of T7 2f. Leading shouldn't be an issue unless you push it past 1450 fps. Let us know how they do in that Knight... I have a Mag DISK and am considering trying the same thing. 70-90 gr of T7 should be fine.

Wildweasel,
Last wednesday, the day before thanksgiving, I shot a young buck with the 460 gr. .50 cal. No Excuses bullet out of my T/C Hawken. I use 85 gr. of FFG blackpowder, and I bet two shoulders of a moose couldn't stop this load. I don't know if the 495 gr. will stabilize out of my 1-48 twist, but the .50 460 is extremely accurate.
These are high quality bullets and I would recommend them to anybody. I have never had any problem with leading in my gun, and I have been through 3 of the 50 count boxes. Your faster rate of twist may tend to lead a bit more, but it wouldn't stop me from using them.

RE: 495 No Excuses
Took me a few day's,but i can tell you ,that my Knight Elite Loves the 495 No Excuses.Accuracy was unremarkable, untill i hit the Sweet spot, and once there,it's is proving to be a 3/4" Shooter,at 100Yds.My Load is as follow's.
495 Gr No Excuses
85 Gr,Triple 7 ffg
Winchester 209's
Shot 2 3- shot groups at 100.just to make sure, that it was not a fluke.3/4" first group.followed by a 11/16" on the second Group. Now ill try out some 5 shot groups this weekend,to see if they open up or not,but as far as testing more ,im satisified, and will put the brakes on,at this point. Anyone have a Guess as to my Velocity? Ill set my Chrono up within the few week's,and let you know how close you came!

Wildweasel,
I do not have a chrono., but my guess is that your velocity will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1300-1400 fps. Probably closer to 1300. It sounds pretty meager, but 495 gr. of lead at that speed will penetrate like a bunker buster.
I ordered my 460 grainers about 4 years ago from the guy in Utah because I was wanting to work up a true power load in a full size .50 conical to someday fullfill my dream a taking an elk with my sidelock. I quickly discovered that this load was the most accurate thing I have found. I know that 460 gr. may not be necessary for the local whitetails, but it is nice to put a shot exactly where you aim it.
