The T7 primers aren't as hot. Actually, ALL the "muzzleloader" 209 primers are cooler than the standard 209 shotshell primers. CCI's work beautifully in my TC and my daughters TC Impact with BH209. I've yet to have a misfire. They are the perfect length for just the right "crush" that I have set up in it. Fed 209A are supposed to be really good with BH as well.

Hey there Sabotloader, I just purchased a couple of custom BH 209 breech plugs from Knight. They are bored to 032.5. What are your thoughts on sticking w/ 777 primers from here. I DO NOT ever want that problem again! That F$@*&ing primer cost me a bull Elk last season.
Also what exactly are the differences between standard 209 shotgun & 777 primers

I have not had enough experience with the T7 primer and the use of BH powder. Because of that I would tell you I would not try it without more shooting time especially in cold weather.
Western recommends MAG primers because they have to make sure the powder goes BOOM in all of the different breech plugs on the market. With a Lehigh or Lehigh/Knight BP there is not need for a mag primer. There is not doubt in my mind that I would shoot W209'w with confidence.
This chart shows the different pressures created by the different primers listed...

Hi everyone. Haven't joined forum for awhile. Have had LOTS of trouble w/ my Knight Mountaineer. First shot is ALWAYS too high (9" - 18"). I know this is due to the barrel temp. The colder the temp., the higher the first shot goes. The second shot is always spot on. Too bad the first is generally more important huh?
Last year I shot a cow Elk at 143 yds. I aimed middle & behind shoulder. The shot dropped her & hit just above spine & ruined 4 BS steaks. After she rolled over & stood up, 2nd shot was perfect & finished her off. My stories re. "first shots" out of this gun go on & on.
I'm done with Knight Rifles, esp. after they will not return my calls. Knight loves selling guns, but helping customers... NOPE!
I am looking either at CVA APEX or T/C Pro Hunter FX. Any opinions or ideas are appreciated. Thanks, and may you all bag some nice critters this fall. Jim Smokepole

As far as primers, just use a CCI or a Federal 209A.
