You can not go wrong with the mighty Thor. May even check into the 300gr Powerbelt Aerolite or the 338gr Powerbelt Platinum. Those 2 are both solid bullets.
My brother drew both deer and elk muzzy so he'll be going with his .54cal Hawken and round ball.

only elk I shot was with a centerfire. And since the DNR frowns on bothering the elk in Wisconsin I don't suspect will ever get the chance. Although you never know. Good luck elk hunting. I am sure the elk hunters can steer you in the right direction.

There is no doubt the thors are probably the toughest bullet out there and if you can get them and they shoot good from your gun, they are a great bullets. But for availability and cost you can't beat the 350 gr Hornady FPB. I have put 4 elk down with them and they are noticeably cheaper than thors. They fly flat and straight in my guns. My current elk load is 90-95 gr BH 209 and the 350 FPB.
Especially with Thors, be sure you have a good supply before August, because they can run out for the season.

Well today I shot some Hornady XTPs and Barnes MZs (300 & 295 gr respectively). Of the bullets I recovered a couple of the XTPs had the jackets separated from the core but the Barnes looked great. The front portion of the bullets expanded as it should and the rear portion, being solid copper, remained in tact. Both bullets shot equally well. I would not hesitate to use the Barnes on anything including moose and big bear. Elk would be no problem.

There have been many tons of big game killed with cheap slow moving 450ish grain conicals. They are about as simple as it gets and seldom fail to produce 2 holes even on very large game.

Yep or some Parker or Bullshop lead conicals can't go wrong with any of the three
