Can you visually tell the difference between the two bullets after penetration? Reason being is that 2 shots were fired at an elk but only one put it down which was found under the hide on the opposite side. I'd like to know so we can stop wondering. By the way, it was a heavy 6x6 which green scored 320 1/4.

Comparing a 45cal 300gr to a 50cal 252gr is a poor comparison at best. Of course a heavier bullet with a higher sectional density will penetrate better. ;)

Can't help you on the bullets, but curious as to why there were two different bullets used?

My guess would be that 2 different people shot at the Elk and only one shot is being considered the "kill" shot but since they can't tell the difference between the bullets they are having a hard time.

As to the OP, good luck. Telling those 2 apart after being fired can be a bit rough. Did you not recover the other bullet? Did it pass through? Were the weights and caliber of both bullets identical?

Are you by-chance color-blind? There's a nice chance the thread-starter can tell the difference. My two links present two different color bullet-remains.

So please compare / check your two eyes, before suggesting my comparison is poor.

I would imagine a hunter would know what color his bullet was before he shot it but if not he could ask a medium.,,,i guess :happy0157:
