Default 45cal 300gr AT PLATINUM POWERBELT

The 300g Platinum was tested this morning. Shot through carpet, shelving, and 4 jugs, it bounced off the last jug, leaving the jug undamaged. Load = 80g Blackhorn. Range = 25 yard.

The bullet bounced into matted grass near the horse, and we could not see it. The metal detector found it after a brief search; it was about 5' away is all, but hidden. Small pieces of the bullet were found in the second, and third jug. The bullet now weighs 253.7 grain.

thats the kind of results i would have expected. Interesting too is the tip and how it always gets sucked into the center and can turn sideways. As simple as that "plastic" tip it, it actually causes a great deal of weakness in the center of the bullet when it turns sideways. We experimented with solid brass and steel inserts that had smooth shafts and same result as the plastic. They just turn sideways and eat into the center of the bullet, weakening it. Gotta be threaded!

That is not bad at all for a PB. MY WAG was a 80gr load would perform ok. IIRC it was Lane that suggested a 70gr load a few years ago.

I tested the 300gr 45cal years ago but used 80gr pyrodex rs and sand. These recovered from 100 yards.

Recovered Weight,
300 - 298 - 296

That's a pretty tall bullet, for only 300 grains. It's shape/body reminds me of my 405 gr. lead HPs.

Bullet worked well in this test. Too bad they are so expensive at 1.60.

A very interesting test. It did better then I thought it would after all the PowerBelt horror stories I read.

Well it is a 45cal and 300gr. The sectional density is far higher than most PBs and the plating on the Plats is supposed to be better.

As a comparison, you would need a 375gr 50cal to beat its sectional density of .212

That explains it's size. I thought it was a 50-cal bullet.
