The Dead Center is designed to penetrate thru the deer. It doesn't expand enough for me. The video at prbullet shows a pass-thru.
Super Hunt mentioned trusting a bullet. Well I would have trusted that 252 gr hollow=point shown at the beginning of this thread. It still retained 172 grains and mushroomed big-time. It was the only bullet where the plywood was destroyed - first jug was destroyed, and tossed 15-20 feet away. There's no doubt that all the bone concerns Super Hunt mentioned would have produced a big-time mess inside that deer, had Ron's pictured bullet on page-1 of this thread hit a deer shoulder, instead of that plywood. I do not use Powerbelts. But the attack on the pictured one shown is asinine. That jug thrown 15-20 feet was still holding a-lot of energy to disperse in that deer, compounded by a big mushroom already produced. There's a reason REPEAT Powerbelt users keep going back to the store and buying more of those bullets. There's a reason that bullet remains a top-3 seller in this country. The reason is NOT because it's a known failure to harvest. If it was, then the Powerbelt Co would be out-of-business by now. Repeat customers means it's working. 50 year-long roundball users means the the 177 gr. round piece of lead-bullet is working just fine. Again,., the 95 percenters are shooting 1-100 yards. If the other 5% want to bash these bullets, then so be it. But the end-result never changes the mind of Powerbelt and roundball users...... never. |

This video that looks like a spine shot? Deer tend to drop super fast when hit there
http://prbullet.com/duplex.wmv This one dropped instantly too with a 185gr bullet at well over 100 yards. I watched this happen a few years ago. ![]() Sorry but there is a big different between controlled expansion and a a bullet that performs like a varmint bullet. Thats probably why we dont use varmint bullets in centerfires for deer either. Thats why they make a huge variety of bullets for calibers like .243 and 25-06 which perform ok when the proper bullet is used. There's a reason REPEAT Powerbelt users keep going back to the store and buying more opf those bullets. There's a reason that bullet reamins a top-3 seller in this country. |
Please do not refer to the 95% Club as Stupid (not knowing better). The Kings of Stupidity are the ones paying 1.60 per ML bullet (or over 75 cents) for harvest-distances under 100 yards.
Your definition of better is only better 5% of the time. I'll stick to 180/260 Precisions, 300 gr. XTPs, 200 gr. SSTs and 250 Deep Curls, none of which requires magnum powder loads and that combo still allows me breathing room for an extra 50 yards (150). |

I proudly use the Barnes 250 gr. Expander MZ bullets and I'm far from stupid. Practical is more like it.
For the record, I haven't told anyone what bullet they should use. I prefer shoulder shots. If I don't have a broadside shot, I'll take a raking shot. I want the bullet to penetrate as much bone and vital organ as necessary to increase trauma for a quicker kill. Or a better blood trail if necessary. |

That duplex bullet video you posted is not of a (high) spine shot. |
