I shoot 54x50 cal sabots all the time but mine is a 1-28 and it works fine with Blackhorn209. A Rem 50cal 385gr CLHP at over 1800fps is very nasty on both ends.

Both ends, in the middle and across the country I would imagine :eek2:

But we weren't talking about a tricked out custom ML'er here Gm. Just a little ole traditions (not sure which model) with an assumed 1:48 twist.

Did you boys know that the bullet tested here costs more than a bullet what penetrated three times further, in the same test? Is that remarkable? NO? YES? :D Man i hope i didn't just join another click...

Ron.....You know penetration isn't the whole thing to look for in a bullet. A hard cast bullet will pencil right through an animal, and the animal can stand there like it wasn't even hit.

Hit the same animal with an expanding bullet, and it gets knocked down.

Of course I don't mean a pancake expansion either. We need a compromise. Good expansion, decent penetration, and big wound channel.

Hey Pete, check out the Partition Thread. Hows about that for a wonderful combination of expansion, and penetration? Wow! All that for less money. :D

And that why I use the Lehigh! for all of those good things

ronlaughlin 08-01-2015 07:09 PM

Yep, the Lehigh XP is the other bullet that penetrated three times deeper than the bullet tested here.

The 348grn PB's are terrible on Deer as well. RW had me switch to those with the same terrible results. Whoever is looking for a cheap bullet that's 1000 times better then a Powerbelts just buy 250grn XTP'S

Its not tricked out or a custom. It just a very limited production Knight DISC based 54cal carbine...Hence the forum name GMB54-120

Lets eliminate the sabots. I'm looking for a muzzy bullet for Colorado.

This year I tried not putting in for any muzzy tags, and I have no elk tag. I always got one in the ML season. As much as I hate the heat in mid Sept. That's better than not hunting, or having to go to an OTC unit.

Grouse? The 348gr didn't work on deer? Why does it work so well on elk for so many? You taking butt shots?
