I started using them based on the BH 209 website which speaks well of them. I've had nothing but good performance with them on a wide range of different loads. I'm a big proponent of the " if it ain't broke, don't fix it" theory. Have you tried Midway Supply or Natchez Shooters Supply?

I disagree. While I don't think there is any need to go 'over the top' there is no problem with a little extra security in a hotter primer. I've had hang fires with STS and WIN but never a CCIM.

In a perfect world, you have a perfect breach plug, it's 70 degrees, your flash channel is always perfectly clear and there is zero oil. I don't know about you, but I don't live in perfect world so a little extra security is not a bad thing in my mind.

Stopped our local gun store today and they did not have any CCI 209M primers. Plenty of regular CCI 209 primers and full supplies of all other primers, powders, bullets, etc... that I am aware of. Even had .22lr ammo. I still have 1/2 a pack of CCI 209M's at home, but use them for a custom built slug gun and shotgun reloading. I picked up a pack of Federal 209A, a bottle of Blackhorn 209 & a pack of TC Shockwave 250 grain non-bonded yellow tips in the factory supplied black sabot. Hope to try them out in my Kodiak Mag & Triumph this weekend. Will post a range report when finished.

Why yes i agree, one should do what makes one comfortable, if possible.

Myself, i feel quite secure using W209 primer in my rifle. Those were what was available when i started shooting Blackhorn in that rifle, and mostly that is all i have ever used. Never once have i experienced a hang fire using that rifle, even when i shot it near 50 times without cleaning. After all them shots, the flame channel was so full of carbon, i couldn't run a 1/8" drill through it. A 1/16" drill was necessary to begin the process of cleaning the breech plug. One winter my rifle was left over night in the truck when the temperature dropped to -17 degrees. Next morning the rifle fired without delay, as it has every time when the trigger is pulled, and the firing pin strikes on them W209.

The second rifle i tried Blackhorn in would hang fire ever so often. Thankfully i understood it was the rifle/breech plug causing the issue, not the W209 primer. After the breech plug was 'fixed', that rifle never made a delay ever again. About that time is when i gave them STS primer a try, and they worked perfect in both rifles, except being shorter than the W209, they allowed more blow-by.

Today, i no longer 'test' the rifles, primers, powder, bullets, like i once did, however this October, when the trigger is pulled i 'know' the W209 primer will ignite the powder right now, and the bullet will be on the way, without delay. You know, i know, even though i really can't know, i just know.

Its kind of strange i can ignite any recommended smokeless powder in my Savage with a Win209 100% of the time with a clean flash channel. Smokeless can't be easier to ignite than BH209 and the Savage plug is not even quite perfect IMO.

I always hunt on a clean plug and i cant imagine why anyone would want to hunt on a dirty plug. It only takes a few seconds to remove the carbon. The only reason i ever use a mag primer in my Savage with some loads is the extreme spreads are a little better.

My NULA is also flawless with a standard CCI primer and every powder ive tried. It even loads loose compared to all my other rifles but still shoots fantastic.

I went through nearly half a box of WinT7 primers in a Lehigh plug without a hiccup in my Knights during a single range session.

Sounds like a plug design issue to me, not a lack of power in the primer. Its the lack of that power/heat getting to the powder.
