Did you ever have one of those little machines that rolled cigarettes? For some reason I think of those little machines when I look at paper patched bullets. :)

Some good lead, a heat source, a good mold, and an adapted cigarette rolling machine with some Zig-Zags might just do the trick. :D

The nice thing about paper patching is it is legal in every state that allows conicals. The paper protects the bore from the bullet and the bullet from the bore. No leading in the barrel and the accuracy is amazing. Unlike some conicals paper patched bullets just won't move off the powder charge. The paper Patch allows us to use bullets that we could not use otherwise.
This Lee 500 S&W bullet like has already been said will penetrate. I have shot antelope, big deer and elk with them. I have never found a bullet. The bullet hit with a loud WHOMP. it sounds much like the hit of a centerfire bullet. The wide meplat of this bullet is the key to its WHOMP.

Another bullet that can be use is the one I use in my 45. I use a RCBS 11mm bullet paper patched and sized to .446 for this load.

Accuracy with this bullet has been amazing. This is the rifle

This is the groups from this rifle and load.

The biggest reason I like the paper patched bullets is dependability. Ron

Ron.......What would be a good bullet for the New Englander to paper patch? 26" barrel, 1-48 twist, shallow rifling.

I don't know for sure. My buddy shoots the Lee 500 S&W bullet in his TC white mountain carbine. I think it has a 1-32 or something like that. Ron

You never tried it with the Renegade barrel? It would be the same thing as I have.

I looked at a chart, and a 425 gr bullet is suppose to be ideal for a 1-48 twist.

You're going to knock your whitetails into next week with those bullets.

hoping to finally talk my wife into letting do a boar hunt in FL. still hoping the elk population in Va is stable enough in the next few year for them to open the season on them.
