Meats going to the food bank. The processor is swamped and the meat won't be ready for Thanksgiving but it will help some folks later.

Nice hog falcon. I shot one this morning while deer hunting. Didnt post a pic I was shooting my sons 270 win. Had a whole bunch of them go through a thicket before it was shooting light. This one was about 20 minutes behind, bad luck for him. He will eat good young boar that weighed 87lbs.

Yep, thats what we have here: Lots of wild hogs of every description, many with Eurasian boar blood. The article is right, the hog population can triple or quadruple in a year. 2011 and 2012 were not good years for hogs in OK west of I-35. We're in a prolonged drought.

Hogs can have two litters per year under ideal conditions. That seldom happens here in OK. In 2007 we had a bumper crop of pecans and acorns: That year many sows had two litters.

i hope the state of NY is really serious about eliminating wild hogs. If they are not totally dedicated, hogs will over run NY. Hogs thrive on acorns and there are lots of acorns in NY state.

OK has steadfastly refused to go after hogs. We are not allowed to hunt wild hogs in the WMAs using center fire rifles outside of deer season. Then the OK wildlife people hire helicopters at $3,000-$5,000 per hour to shoot hogs.

We are not allowed to hunt hogs at night with a light. Landowners are permitted to hunt hogs at night using a light with permission of a game warden. i was turned down because no crops are raised on my property.

Our hog trapping has made a difference on one of my places and on the section owned by a friend. The deer are coming back to the game plots. Many of the remaining hogs are trap shy and will have to be shot.

Thank's for the info falcon
I live in an Agriculteral area, lots of farming around here and we have a ton of red oaks. I have yet to see a hog but Im sure eventually I will. Coyotes have been our biggest problem against our deer herd, we can hunt them from Oct 1st thru March 31st day or night with a light and as many as we please with no furberarer tags needed. Im sure if hogs get thta bad we'll be able to do the same. It looks like they can really do some serious damage, heck they let us get crop damage and nusiance tags for deer and they can be hunted at night with a soptlight so if we get over run with hogs Im sure they'll allow us to take em down.
How good are they to eat? They look like a stinky nasty critter.

Arkansas has legalized hunting hogs at night with a light on private ground. On our WMA's, we can only hunt them with rimfire and not at night. The AGFC says that a sow will have 3-4 litters a year here. I do know that they multiply like rabbits around here. I shot my first on this particular farm 7 years ago, didnt see anymore for two more years and then all at once it was the hog explosion. One afternoon while bowhunting I had two groups come into my food plot there were over twenty in each group. Wished I had been hunting with a AR rifle instead of a bow could have gotten more than just one then. As far as eating goes BP they are some fine table fare, far more leaner meat than tame pork. It should be more healthy to eat. Were gonna build some traps this winter and see if we can cut the numbers down, I do know it is tough to try and control the numbers by just hunting them. Falcon do you have any prints for a hog trap? How do y'all make the doors?
