Default Apex 45-70 conversion

Well I took the smokeless out today to try and see how it would do. I shot this load about a week ago and while it did alright I wanted it to be a little better. I found that my ventliner needed changed and it made all the difference today. 3 shot group at 100 yards with 60 grains of IMR4198, 195 grains Barnes, Harvester Blue sabot, Win209 Primer. I think I found my hunting load. I haven't been able to chrono this load yet but I suspect it to be around the 2600 fps range.

That sounds like a nice load. My .45-70 load is 57 gr of H4198. Of course I am shooting a full bore diameter 300 gr bullet. Seems to me that would be a pretty good load for deer/black bear/hogs.

I hope to give it a workout on the deer this year for sure.
