During my brief experience as an elk hunter, the elk proved to be not only impossible to kill but also invisible.

Ya but the elk you were hunting around the INEL nuclear site in southern Idaho those elk were also radio active... Instead of a rifle ya shuda taken a gieger counter and a rifle.

FAR from a yearling sabotloader. Thats all you got because you could never get a picture of me next to it, that sucker was a horse when you stood next to it.

200 yards can easily be done with that 425gr maxiball, hell doc white puts the max range of a patched round ball in 54cal at 175 yards! Learn the drop at 200 yards.

Elk,deer, bear, they are NOT hard to kill. There is no magic bullet, its simply, put it through the heart or lungs and its done.

Sure shot placement is important but oh wait i can hear the crows callin now. but but but not everything goes perfect in the field. Sure, but if you pull the shot and get a poor hit, shame on you for taking a scratch shot YOU were not comfortable with.

If elk or deer or what ever is hard to kill, please explain exactly why you think they are hard to kill because the hardest darn part about elk hunting for me is finding them during day light hours.

You standing next to it has nothing to do with it... You posted the pictures of it in the pick up... Al you have to do is to look at the head. The length of the head tells you everything you need to no...

Look at the length of this head... I bet it is several inches longer than your and this is a 3 year old cow.

This is another 3 year old

I will tell you what post up a picture of the elk head and hide in the back of the truck and let others make the judgement.. And your first elk always looks like a horse - cause normally anything after a calf is...

And again I am not down playing your harvest it was a good and that young meat should have been excellent eating.

Jon it is not really about size of the body that is dertirmined by habitat... The age factors are the teeth and the facial bone structure - and the bone stucture is not a perfect indicator but it provides a good rule of thumb

What difference does it make how old it is? If you're a meat hunter. The size is all that's important.

Mo meat...Mo better.
