he doesnt believe the actual size of it LOL, i really wish i had gotten a picture of me next to it but when you are fighting darkness and trying to drag it off a mtn and then hang it, time is an issue.

my dog has a tiny head but a huge body so its impossible to judge something like that lol. I agree mine was young but surely not a yearling.

Jon

Understand I am not saying it is a calf... it had already gone through that stage + one winter... The head and the ears tell you a whole bunch about the estimated age of the animal. Even your knives lieing next to the complete rib cage tells alot.

That's why I don't hunt late in the day. I want most of the day to get out the meat. If I don't shoot something in the morning. I'm gone.

Mo meat...Mo better.
Exactly correct...

My thought to Jon he is under-estimating the durabiliy of a mature elk versus a young one like the animal he harvested.

muley, it was actually nice that entire day but come evening, i was crapping my pants seeing all the elk on the side of that mountain lol. Had i been looking up rather than at the field, i may have spotted them sooner. I was in full traditional gear, including moccasin boots.

SB, thats exactly what i thought you were saying.. a calf lol. That sucker though was BIG when we got up to her. I really wish i could have gotten some pics of her but you already know the reasons. My brother made me laugh because he saw the leg in the air and goes, On my god its a freakin horse! He actually thought it was a horse.

Oh ok. He has a bull tag this year. I've been trying to discourage him from using a PRB for it. Not that it wouldn't work, but there's not much margin for error. A Thor, or big hunk of lead would be better.

Surely not a calf, that would make it almost 1 1/2 years old if it was the next year. I'm thinking it might be the year after that. It looks like a good size.

I'd be happy with the same size this year. You have that big stinky bull.
