Default Cold, Windy, but We Were Fishin'

We fished Oahe last week a couple of days. Caught limits and more of nice fish both days. The fish were in the middle of the spawn. It was windy and cold, but we managed to survive. The morning of the second day the temperature was 26 at dawn. Both days we returned home with only 7 fish, because we seemingly cannot count. Biggest was about 24", which was tossed. We have eaten enough fish so that they no longer taste delicious; just good.

I used to go to Mobridge and fish Oahe. Would camp at that city park that had a free boat landing. Always had excellent walleye fishing there. And the people around there were so fun and easy to get along with. Have not went back in years now. But that sure looks like fun.

Them some nice walleye, thats one good eating fish. I catch them on the spring river here. Flatheads and walleye are my two favorite fish to eat.

Wow, you sure traveled a lot further than we did. Where we fished is 166 mile from the house. We also had free boat launching. Camping was free with no facilities. The only thing provided was some gravel. Then it turned out the pressure switch on the water pump in the trailer failed. However, i was able to keep wife showered, and happy, with some ingenuity i.e. hammering on the switch with a leatherman.

I think it is cool you actually fished here, and especially that you had good fishing. These were our first taste of 'eye, in almost 2 year, and we really really really enjoyed the eatin'. Catching was really fun too!

Whats weird is, i have never been to Mobridge.

Walleye run is about over here, I live almost a mile from Greers Ferry Lake and we have a couple of places on the Little Red River. The Great Grand kids came over for the week end yesterday and went to the river place for trout and caught enough for supper.

Earlier n my life I spent a great deal of time on Oahe and Sharpe. I do miss it. I understand the fish are back in a big way.

Congrats on a fine catch. Jigs, I assume? What part of the river were you fishing?

It is too early and too cold for wife to go fishing, but the Journal kept reporting the fishing was better than excellent, so we bit.

The closest part of Oahe to our house, is the Cheyenne River Arm. That is where we fished. We fished with jigs. To me, it seemed kinda strange to have such good fishing in the middle of the spawn. The males were leaking all over the boat, and wow, they were on the bite. Hopefully, fishing will be good a little later when it is warmer.

Some are concerned that too many smelt may have washed away in last summer's high water, and as a result fishing will suffer in the near future. Last week fishing was great! Even though the boat is some small for the size of Oahe, we managed, and hope to manage again and again and..........................

I have tried and tried and tried for years to get wife to buy me a Pro-V. When we returned home i suggested we may need a bigger boat. What she did was go and purchase herself a better rain coat; remarking, "this is less expensive, and negates the need for a bigger boat".

The Walleye season hasn't even opened here in NY and Pa. yet. Good thing, been too darn busy with school work leading into finals to fish. Trout season has been open for awhile and I've only gotten out once.

You got me Excited Ron! Our Walleye just finished there Spawn, we wont fish for them untill our First Tournament in Mid June. I cant Wait!
Have you ever ate the (Cheeks) from the Walleye? we cut the cheek meat out and boil them in some water with a beer added, boil for a short time them dip em in Butter, Oh there Soooooo Gooooood! almost taste like Lobster.
We have some Big Ol Walleye in Lake Erie, pictured is my buddy Greg with his 11.89 pounder he won 2nd place with and me with mine that weighed in at 11.31lbs, I won 10th place. Were both having them mounted and should be done any day now. Were going after the 12 and 13lbers we let slip away last year. they always manage to shake the hook just befor you net em.
Thansk's for sharing this and sorry did'nt meant to hijack your Thread with my Pics.
Both of these Fish were 31 1/2". Im not sure how the Spawn went this year as Lake Eire never froze over, usually with the ice the water is calm under it for the spawn.
