They aren't doing that though. Maybe they modify them to hold 10 rounds in the tube.
2 seconds is huge in CAS for one station. CAS aside. It's a nice looking gun. |
I suspect you could load ten .38's with a short or deep seated bullet, or maybe even shorten the brass a bit. The ones I tried are full profile round nose lead bullets.

Read post #4 in this thread for info. about how to load 10 rounds in a .357 Marlin 94 magazine:

I have never heard of a Puma lever rifle before. Is Puma the actual manufacturer? Three weeks ago I bought my first lever gun; an 1980 built 336c in 35 remington. I love the gun. When I bought it it had a 8 lb trigger pull. I put a Wild West trigger on it and now its a sweet 3 lb pull. 35 ammo isnt the most common round to find tho. Thats a nice looking gun that you have bought and 44 ought to knock a deer plenty hard.

Semi. the wood on that gun is gorgeous. Did the gun have factory installed swivels or did you add them. My 336 in 35 will definitely be hitting the woods next year during hunting.

Deer, the Puma is the manufacturer. I believe they were bought out by Rossi. But except for the safety on top of the action (which I hate on a lever gun) it is the same design as the old Winchester 92.
I know all about those frivilous law suits form mishandling but I really dispise those cross bolt safetys on the newer Marlin and Winchester lever guns. At least the one on this rifle is on top and is a bit less conspicious. |

I bought it last September. My son is a auto mechanic. He told me about a customer of his that had a .357 Marlin in his closet for years, new in the box - never been fired, that he wanted to sell. I've always wanted one, so I contacted the guy to check it out. It was indeed new in the box, with original factory grease. After a little negotiating I got it for $450 which I think was a bargain.

How accurate is that rifle with open sights at say.. 50 yards Semi? I once shot a Ruger Mini 14 that was .44 mag and that was a very accurate rifle. My buddy deer hunted with that rifle. And he killed a lot of deer with it.

I didn't shoot it even once with open sights Cayugad. I ordered the scope base the same day I bought the rifle and already had an extra ProDaimond in the closet.
I load 180 grain XTP's for it over 14.5 grains if Lil`Gun for a velocity of 1600 fps. It gives me groups right at one-inch at 50 yards and two inches at 100. Haven't shot .38's out of it, just .357 Mags. It shoots 158 grain bullets pretty well, but not as well as the 180's. Also tried some hot 125 grain loads I have for a handgun. They didn't do well at all. |
