I didn't say he didn't or it couldnt be done. I think it is possible but, don't think it is an everyday occurance. I would like to see his practice targets.

I say fact. I say it's rare and takes a lot of practice but very doable. I shot my first (only) ML deer at 115 yards with open sights and would have guessed she was a lot closer. I don't think it's that much of a stretch. Now if it was a 300 yard or more shot I would be a little more skeptical.

My current load zeroed for 100 would drop about 15" at that range. Placing the front sight just on top of the animal's back would put the bullet in the kill zone.
You guys know that high power match shooters shoot at 1,000 yards using irons, right? Peep sights, no less.

It also depends on how the rifle is sighted in. Center hold, or 6 o'clock hold?
Fact or crap: My very first time deer hunting, I was getting bored. I spotted some turkeys in the valley below (yes, I had turkey tags), and I picked one off at 150 yards with iron sights (rear peep, .308). And I have a witness.
I have no reason to believe MM's buddy couldn't bag that deer at 220.

I have never tried a shot that far on a game animal. With that said the way my rifles are set up I could hit a 220 yard shot no problem with a good rest. In fact I practice out to 300 yards regularly. I have a Lyman 57 SML peep sight. It is field adjustable so when I use the range finder and get a yardage I set the sight for that yardage. The front sight I use is a Lyman 17 AML with a Lee Shavers BPCR insert, or I also have the Lee Shavers BPCR globe sight with a level. This shavers sight and or insert is used out to 1000 yards in some BPCR competitions. Most open sights cover way too much of the target to get any accuracy at all. The peep with a good globe sight and a long range insert are the way to go.
I wont take a shot past 150 yards on the first shot. But if I have an animal that for some reason has not gone down and is hit. I would take any shot offered out to 300 yards. So far all the animals I have hit with my Paper Patched bullets don't go very far. Ron
