Default Looking for another project

I am going to start looking for a T/C Hawken or maybe a Renegade flintlock that is in rough shape in either .45 or 50 cal and sent it to my barrel guy to have it rebored to .54 and put a 1:70 twist in it. The Rene would be no problem but he told me today to watch the Hawken as T/C sent out a few with the dovetail for the barrel lug a bit too deep to safely bore it out to .54.

Might I ask, what does it cost to have a barrel ... say a .54 caliber 1-48 twist, turned into something like a .58 with a 1-70 twist?

Dave, provided there is enough 'meat' on the barrel for reboring to a larger caliber the cost is about $150 from the gs here in PA. I talked to him today and he told me he needs at least .100" remaining in machined areas like the barrel lug, screw holes, etc. Also, he can put in any twist rate you want. And, if you have a lousy bore say in .50 cal and you want to keep it a .50, he can bore out, sleeve and re-rifle the bore to the twist of your choice. Send me a pm and I will give you his name and number.

What would be the advantage to that when drop in barrels are available? Ron

Well Ron for one, GM does not have a flintlock drop in barrel available in .54 cal. The only flintlock barrel that GM makes to fit a T/C Hawken in a .50 cal 1:70. And secondly, I can probably buy a beat up T/C Hawken, refininsh the stock and have the barrel work done for less than a new GM barrel if I could find one in .54 and flintlock and a 1:70 twist rate.

Darn it. All year long there are used flinters all over the place. Now, a week before the season starts there's not one to be found. I guess the project will have to wait until after the late ML season here. Unless someone knows where I can get a used T/C Hawken flintlock barrel in .45 or .50 cal.
