$217 for the Optima is still a good deal. I can get the SS/Camo thumbhole for $290 shipped so that's probably the better deal LOL.
Best part about the hand removable breech plug is that it cuts down weight/clinking in your possibles bag when you're hunting. I hated having to carry that just with me in the field for one of those " just in case" moments.

Our Walmart has the black thumbhole stock Optima for $199 on clearance with the stainless barrel. It's been on clearance since last black powder season and they still haven't sold it. The one up the road has one too for the same price. I'm wondering if that's what you are seeing as prices seemed to vary slightly from one Walmart to the next. I've thought about buying one of these, but I've handled it several times and I can't get over the way it feels. Everything about it just feels cheap to me, and each time I've set it back. I also don't like this "thumbhole" stock at all. It feels really weird to me.
I know some guys like them though, so you may like it. It's worth checking out and forming your own opinion on.

Home...Our WalMart just put the muzzleloading supplies out this weekend...The Optimas they had are the black stock/stainless barrel for $217 and camo thumbhole stock/stainless barrel for $287 and a black/blue Omega for $277...The sporting goods manager goes to church with me and he said they had just received them so I'm assuming they are new...

I just got back from Walmart and you are absolutely correct. It was an Optima. Good thing too. I was going to buy another muzzle loader I really didn't need. So I walked out...After cleaning the shelf of those $11.97 packs of 30 count Thompson Center Mag Express sabot/240 grain XTP's. Oh, and a $44.97 Thompson Center 3x9x40mm scope, rings and base package. So I guess I saved myself about $130.00. The scope is going on the .54 cal. Traditions side lock kit when I finish building it.

One of the Walmarts also had a T/C Impact for quite a while after the season ended and I almost bought it too. I really felt for the price that it seemed like a really nice gun. The only thing that stopped me from buying it was that I don't want another muzzle loader with a blued barrel. I only want the stainless from now on.
The Omega they have, I wanted, and I had decided if I found it on clearance at the end of last year I was going to buy it even though it wasn't the stainless barrel like I wanted. However, as soon as I saw the guns go on clearance at our local Walmart, they were sold out, and I went to quite a few others in the area to find all but one was sold out, and the one that wasn't sold out didn't have that one on clearance like the rest of them. I'm not sure why they went so fast, but after thinking about it more I decided it must just not be meant to be. I eventually want to upgrade to one with a stainless barrel, but I figure what I have now works.
