Do we believe Max or Toby about the PT Gold?
Performance in gel, or a deer. We know Max's results. Here's Toby's.

Here's a couple of bad reviews for the PT Gold. These are from the Savage smokeless crowd. So, maybe pushing the bullet too hard is the problem.
"I do not know if it was a bad shot on my part but Saturday evening I knocked a big doe down, then she got up and took off. There was very little blood and we lost her.260 grain pt gold 42.5imr4759 rcr distance 57 yards. This is a very accurate load on paper but i am going to try and use something else for hunting"
Another one.
"first bullet i used in my ML. 43grs 4759. HPH 12 win 209. very accurate like MOA. first and last deer i took with them was broad side at 40 yds. it was like a bomb went off on the side of her chest. 12"+ entrance wound with little pentration only fragments into the onside lung. she died anyway but bullet preformance was poor at best. this bullet is WAY too soft for Savage guns. might be OK of BP or Subs but not smokeless."

I would have to check my SML data base but im pretty sure that is MUCH faster than 99% of us can reach with even BH209. Roughly 2300fps and its the max recommended load for that powder too.

Im sure they can frag since it is only a Rainier bullet. They used to sell them in just a HP but stopped after getting the contract with Harvester. You cant buy their 40-200gr any more either for the same reason. Ive turned a 50-300gr Rainier into a pancake and i was far from my max load. The same weight GoldDot 50A&E held up just fine in the same load/media on the same day.

I have never really had an interest in the PT's, I have assumed they were an upgrade to the Power Belt. And I realize there are a lot of people that use the Power Belt very succwssfully but it is not a bullet that I would use - I was hoping the the PT's were better and they probably are, but still not tough enough for my applications.
GM how thick is the copper plating that is applied to the lead core.
Also I have been told that a lot of folks like the Ranier bullets in their pistols. But I am thinking they use them at less velocity...
