Teflon tape question

I am trying to use teflon tape around the breechplug threads, but I am having trouble getting the plug installed.
With teflon tape wrapped around the threads clockwise, I am able to screw the plug into the barrel fairly easily for the first half of the length of the plug. For the last half of the plug, it becomes increasingly very difficult to screw the plug into the barrel, and then it is impossible (even with a alot of muscle) to get the plug installed completely. Is this how it should be? Even if I could get the plug screw in all the way, I am concerned that I will not be able to get the plug unscrewed after several shots.
I would be grateful for any thoughts or suggestions on how folks get the telflon tape to work for their breechplugs.
I am using pink teflon tape on a breechplug for a Knight LRH. I am wrapping the threads only 1 time with the tape; I am not double wrapping the threads.
Thank you in advance.

See if this helps...

Which color of tape are you using?
A couple of other things you have to make sure that the threads in the barrel are clean ans clear of old residue.
Make sure after you wrap the plug that push the tape down into the threads of the BP.
What sounds like is the first part of the plug is going just fine but then some thing causes the tape to tear and start balling up.
Remeber do not wrap it to thick - I use one layer with a small overlap - either white or pink tape which ever the gun likes best....
Shoot... If I would learn to read.... You might have to go to white tape it is a bit thinner. I think I use white on 3 Knight and pink on two... so maybe try some white....
Hope some of this helps....

Thank you Sabotloader. You have a number of good suggestions in your post that I am going to try.
I have noticed that when I back the breechplug out of the barrel, most of the teflon tape is stripped away from the threads and little tape remains on the threads. Is this the way it should be, or should the teflon tape still be fairly intact even after you remove the plug?

I found a single drop of synthetic oil does wonders stretch the tape enough so that it fits down into the threads like Sabotloader's picture and put the drop of synthetic oil on spread it with a finger and screw the plug in with out leaving it set any length of time. If that does not fix it the wire brush the threads on the plug and in the gun to take off any burrs and try again. I have use the tape twice in the field with out a problem as long as I am not using 777.

What happens if you use 777 when trying the teflon tape trick? Does the 777 interact negatively with the teflon?
