Powder question

OK i got an old black powder gun that is a side hammer precusion cap ....we usually shoot 90 grains of powder pushing a ball and patch ....now my mother wants to shoot it and we were thinken of shooting 60 grains of pyro pellets and a xtp240grain bullet ..she will be shooting at no more then 40 yards is that enouph powder for the job?

I'm betting the twist in the barrel will be wrong for pistol bullets, the rifling depth may be wrong as well...Can you look at it and get a name off the gun, caliber would be nice as well...
If it were me, I'd drop the powder charge down to 65-70grs with the patched ball and see how she grouped at 40 yards...If it groups well, and I bet she will, I'd take it hunting...

Thanks for the info guys i set the gun up with 60 grains of powder and a pach and ball and sent her hunting with my dad and she shot a button buck at 65 yards and hit it in the heart and it ran maybe 45 yards into the woods and died

I often shoot my knight in-line with with patch&balls and shot a 7 points buck at 85 yards and dropped it in his tracks.
