I feel bad enough allready having missed a really nice deer at maybe 25 yards max. I was using my new Wolf that's zero'ed in at 100 yards. I should have been aiming a lot lower but I guess I got too excited. He was following the does and wasn't waiting arround for me to give the shot a whole lot of thought. If I had been using my old Hawkins he would have been in a world of trouble. I've had that thing for more than 20 years and it's like an extention of my right arm. Oh well, live and learn I guess.

Thanks for sharing the story. Hope it all ends well. Wasn't intended as criticism, just an observation!

If you just took off a strip of skin that's going to be one nervous buck for the remainder of the season. I hope that sooner or later you get a chance to take a picture of the scar.

That would be neat, but, I really don't expect he'll make that mistake again. Although with some pretty girls around...you never know?

Im not trying to make you feel worse either, but first off Powerbelts Plain Suck! too many horor stories associated with them. But I have tracked many a Deer for people and most give up way too soon in there efforts to look further. Im only saying this from experience and I have found Deer that were double Lung Shot that never bled a drop of blood and went over 150yds, the shooter was convinced of a miss, and this has happened more than once. Look, look more than keep on looking untill you have no doubt that you've done all that you can, then after your certain look more. If for anyother reason you will believe you did all you could have.
And Yes I have seen a few Deer that were Grazed and shot later with the scares to prove it so you just never know ,all you can do is Look and be 100% sure you just grazed, nicked or missed the Deer.
I was Bow Hunting with My Best friend and he arrowed a nice 10 Point, he said he shot it right through the Heart, we looked for 2 days, found the blood trail and it crossed the Thruway, mabey to his Farm on the other side, we looked for sign there, nothing, after day 2 we gave up.
3 weeks later on His Farm on the other side of the Thruway (the last we had sign of where the 10 Point was headed) He shot a 10 Point during Gun Season. He Phoned me telling me he shot the Buck He Arrowed during Archery Season, I did'nt believe Him. When I saw the 10 Point I saw where the Arrow entered and exited just under the Heart of the Buck, it indeed was the Buck he shot and and had got.
So Grazes and Nicks do happen and the Deer does Survive, but make sure to yourself to beilieve you did all you can to find it, reguardless if you do or not, at least you can sleep better knowing you gave it your best.
This is'nt just for (Pluckit), it for Me, and all the rest of US Too.

I sleep just fine knowing that I put out more effort than I believe was necessary in trying to find a deer I was certain..no..CERTAIN was only grazed. Enough of this!!! To ridicule, belittle and critcize me and my efforts in finding a deer was NOT the pourpose of this thread! Nor was the pourpose of this thread to get advice on how to track deer. If so I would have named it "Give Me Crap" or "Help Me Find It". So if no one has a story on one they missed then drop it and forget about this thread!!!
