I'm pretty sure I've eaten them When I lived in Brooklyn I ate at White Castle often. I think that's what they make the White Castle burgers from ain't it?

I thought they were nothing but a big rat? And the only reeason that some say they taste good is that they want to get hunters down there and shoot them.

They are a nusance animal aren't they?

Well, they do look like a big rat because of their long hairless tail. But they are herbivores, not omnivores like rats.

They get to be about two feet long (excluding the tail) and a big one can go 25 lbs. The meat is lighter in color than a rabbit's and the younger ones around 10-15 pounds are very, very good eating. An interesting point - their nipples are located high on their sides so the babies can nurse while the mother is in the water.

LDWF has a Nutria info page on one of their websites. Everything you would want to know.
Includes recipes for Nutria Chile and many other recipes. Google Nutria.
