BIT by ram rod
#1
picked me up a .32 cal. blue ridge from cabelas last week. today i had a chance to run a patch down the barrel and i got bit by fiberglass slivers from the ram rod. seems both of the brass ends were pressed on poorly and i ended up with 2 slivers in my thumb
. cabelas said i could return the gun but its almost a 1-1/2- 2 hour drive. wood to metal finish is about average with some gappage. kinda suprised on the rust that came out of the barrel. im getting the bore light out now. i know these guns have a good rating and are made by pedersoli. i hate having a first bad dealing with a new gun. its not a nice way to start a relationship.

those pressed ramrods are not a favorite of mine. I like to see a pinned rod. Also nothing worse then a fiberglass sliver. Ouch!! I can sure understand why your upset. That "rust" in the bore, rub that with your finger and see if it is not slippery. Some of them have a grease in them and that might be the color.
Personally I would be upset also if I got a rifle like that. Maybe it is worth the drive and then you could take a bore light with you and check the rifles in the store and pick the one you want.

The ramrod thing would tick me off, especially at the price those Blue Ridge rifles go for. If I were otherwise happy with the gun I would just fix it myself and save the long drive. But I suspect you're generally unhappy with the gun (buyer's remorse?). If that's the case, it's worth the drive to return it and get something you feel good about.

I would never use a fiberglass ramrod again, many years back I tried that and they are worse than a file for cutting a barrel. I shortened and re-buttoned the barrel and started using a barrel protecting bushing and it cut my bushing.
