02. switch to the musket cap nipple and buy some new caps.
I'm leaning towards option 2. Either should fix my problem.

Been there, done that. Musket caps are more expensive than 209 primers and they are not readily available in many parts of the country. Additionally, they just do not have the puissance of 209 primers.

Thanks for all the help again.
I've decided to switch to the 209 primers.
I do have the 209 breech plug and I will get some 209 primers maybe tomorrow.

Is there anything else I need? Like a capper or a 209 nipple?

Yes, get a straight-line 209 capper such as the Tedd Cash model. I don't know about the nipple situation for that rifle... but if you don't have one, yes.
several vendors make one similar. I recommend getting rid of the flimsy spring thing on the end. Replace it with a key ring.
